C - G. Soto 1B - E. Hinske 2B - O. Hudson 3B - T. Glaus SS - K. Greene OF - A. Soriano, N. McLouth, L. Milledge Util - R. Ankiel BN - F. Sanchez, W. Harris
SP - J. Santana, R. Harden, M. Cain, C. Zambrano, C. Kershaw, J. Geer RP - C. Perez, K. Gregg, A. Heilman, B. Wagner
Here are the moves I'm thinking of:
Pick up Nick Johnson, Emmanuel Burriss, Freese or Wallace, Tommy Hanson Drop Aaron Heilman, Billy Wagner, Willie Harris, Eric Hinske
Thoughts?
Another first baseman instead of Johnson is Gaby Sanchez
Other available third basemen than Wallace are Jeff Keppinger, Bill Hall, and Pedro Feliz.
Other second basemen and shortstops are Alex Gonzalez, Keppinger, Luis Castillo.
Would you drop a fifth (or sixth) player to pick up Dexter Fowler or Matt Gamel?
What is Nick Johnson supposed to do for you? You don't actually think he'll keep the job at 1st do you? That OF is overcrowded as it is, they don't want Dunn out there. Hinske will actually get a lot of playing time between 1st, 3rd and the OF for the pirates this season and could be fairly productive. i wouldn't cut him, he could be the biggest steal of your draft. Aaron Heilman would also be the wrong person to drop as he is slated to join the rotation this season. As for Gamel and Fowler, dropping players you don't think will be very productive for players that will spend the majority of the season in the minors makes no sense at all. It's actually not too bad for an NL only league. Drop Geer and look for De La Rosa who will also start, he's a better pitcher. Drop Wagner who is completely useless and look for Jason Motte who could steal the closing job from Perez. Keep an eye on James McDonald as well who should get the last rotation spot for the Dodgers, Schmidt is already falling apart.
I understand the intrigue with Johnson, but have to agree that before long, Dunn will be the guy there. However, with my bias towards the young and prospects - I'd go Sanchez over Hinske (I just don't trust him to get above of either LaRoche, nor the youth movement in the Bucs' OF).
With regards to Burriss, love the speed and the upside, but I don't think he's going to be a regular for quite a while yet.
Agree that dropping Geer should be looked at. And I have no issues with you dropping Heilman, too - as it appears RP might be your weakest overall position.
Can you afford to grab Hanson if he's not going to stick right away?
Look to make a smaller deal using Zambrano instead, some people are still really big on him. Jordon Zimmermann is another starter to keep an eye on. Even if you would be pitching for the Nats. You could be write about Marshall, how quickly things change in the spring. Looks like he's been pitching quite well.
