Beltran for Fielder? Advice Appreciated

Postby alexeroberts » Wed Mar 04, 2009 8:31 pm

Hi!

11 team 5x5 "keep your 5 best" keeper league using picks 1-5 in the draft... 5 OF, CI, MI spots all play. I pick 8th in the 1st round.

My current keepers are Arod, Holliday, Beltran, Ichiro, Halladay. Got an offer of Fielder and his 6th round (post keeper, 62 overall) for Beltran and my 3rd round keeper (31 overall). I also previously traded Cliff Lee for the 45th overall pick, so it softens the blow of losing a pick a bit.

I am strongly inclined to do this deal. Thoughts?

Thanks for input.

No way. Beltran is better than fielder and the picks make it worse

well the draft pick swaps came in largely because fielder is 25 and beltran 32. so in our league where u can keep a player as long as you want, a 32 year old with declining power isn't as nice looking as he might be if it were a one season swap.

i take it you don't believe fielder will return to 290-40-115?

his last 4 months last year were pretty solid. but you are not believers huh?

I believe Fielder can be very productive, but I think that Beltran has at least 2 years of high level/elite production, equalling or bettering Fielder's production.

You are right with the age difference but in a keeper, I usually don't like to plan more than 2 years ahead. Not saying you have to buy into my strategy or that its the only strategy, but thats how I look at things, which is why I did not like this deal for you.

I don't like this deal...Beltran and Fielder are both good enough that you having to give up a 3rd rounder tilts it into his favor
