Soriano for Beltran - Keeper Leauge - WHIR

Postby plapre3 » Wed Mar 04, 2009 5:11 pm

I've recently been offered this deal:
Alfonso Soriano for Carlos Beltran and Logan Morrison

I'm thinking of taking it because of Soriano's injury concerns and the fact that while I like Morrison, I might be better off keeping Muphy who can step in and be useful immediately. Many draft boards have Beltran rated higher than Soriano but the truth is, Soriano gives more value in the games that he plays and has a bunch more upside. Also, I'm worried about Beltran's lower average and the fact that Dunn is my second best offensive player. Please let me know what you think.

As for the keepers, I'm going with the maximum amount: 10.

C Victor Marinez
1B Adam Dunn
SS Michael Young
OF Alfonso Soriano
OF Corey Hart
SP Johan Santana
SP Yovanni Gallardo
SP Zach Greinke
RP Joe Nathan
RP Joakim Soria

Guys that just miss the cut off: Aubrey Huff (I'm thinking his numbers will be somewhere between '07 and '08, eh), Alex Gordon (Don't think the breakout is gonna come next year)

As for minor leaguers, I only get to keep 5. My thoughts are keeping them in the following order:
1) Colby Rasmus (OF-Stl)
2) Matt LaPorta (1B-Cle)
3) Neftali Feliz (SP-Tex)
4) Logan Morrison (1B-Fla)
5) Josh Vitters (3B-ChiNL)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
7) Daniel Murphy (OF-NYNL)
6) Michael Bowden (SP-Bos)
6x6 weekly HtH 14 team roto keeper (between 5 and 10 keepers (no time limits or costs), losing a draft pick for each after 5)
Offensive Categories: BA, OPS, RBI, HR, SB and Runs Scored.
Pitching Categories: W, S, ERA, K/IP, Quality Starts minus Losses, and WHIP
Offensive Starters: C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, 0F, 0F, 0F, UTIL
Pitching Starters: SP, SP, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, RP
Bench: 10 spots
Minors: 5 "free" keepers. These players if are eligible to be kept without the loss of a draft pick and in addition to the max of 10.
Thank you all in advance and as always, leave a link.
you list both Soriano and Morrison on your team...are you giving Soriano and Morrison for Beltran? If so I would hold onto Soriano, him and Beltran are similar players but I would give Soriano the edge, especially if you would be giving up a player
Well, let's compare.
Beltran will probably hit 25 HR's, 105 Runs, 100 RBI, 18 or so SB, with a .275 BA and .860 or so OPS.
Soriano will probably go 27 HR's, 95 Runs, 85 RBI's, 20 SB, with a .285 BA and an .855 or so OPS.
So by the projections I use:
HR: Soriano
Runs: Beltran
RBI: Beltran
SB: Soriano
BA: Soriano
OPS: Beltran
The look about even to me but throw in Morrison and I'd take it.
Those numbers are a litle low for Beltran. I would project 110 Rbi's and more like 23 SB and an OPS at .875-.880.
Don't see Beltran really dropping off that much next year.
