Susan Slusser from the San Fran Chronicle reports there is ZERO chance of Justin Duchscherer even picks a ball up in the first week of the season... i know if he has surgery hes down for longer, but now everyone is reporting hes done from now until at least the first week if not after then... i took a chance on him, not too too worried got him late and using him as my #6 behind Johan, Hamels, Shields (who just got blown up haha), Jimenez and Sanchez... but not good news to hear...

something tells me he'll be out for longer than that. i mean he's having a surgery on his elbow/forearm and i can't see him coming back so quick.

My thoughts as well, If you have a DL spot and the need stash him but otherwise don't count on much.

I only want to stash him if he is going to be a starter upon his return. Any current news on Duch?

i saw something that pointed out that he's been an all-star as both a starter and in the pen, so it's probably going to depend on where they need him more when he gets back. you'd hope starter, given his experience and how young the rotation is, but the injury history is also something to consider.

I picked him up and am stashing him on the DL. My league is a deep 14 teamer that starts 9 pitchers (2 RP minimum). These are some of the names on my waiver wire for SP's: Harrison, Hampton, Pedro, Braden, Ohlendorf, Adenhart, Correia, Outman, Washburn, Moehler...... I'll take my chances with Duch. Everyone in that young rotation can't pan out right away, so I expect him to return as a starter. (hopefully!!) Also read that his elbow wasn't that bad and should be back mid-May.
