Really need him this year as my rotation in a AL only league is.. I could be in trouble if he is out...
Javier Vazquez - Can keep up to 3 NL players Eric Bedard Justin Duchscherer Jerred Weaver Jeremey Bonderman Luke Hochevar Brandon McCarthy Neftali Feliz
You know, like nunchuck skills, bowhunting skills, computer hacking skills... Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills.
Yeah I would say you could definitely use him. That's not a real good pitching staff. I wouldn't be too trusting in either Hochevar or McCarthy myself. I picked them up a few times as spot starters last year and they got shelled each time. If you're in a league that isn't all that deep I would check out the free agent list and/or waiver wire to see who else is out there. You will get a boost though if Bonderman is back and healthy again along with Bedard.
I was curious about Duchsherer myself since I had him on one of my teams before but dropped him because of his injury risk (I picked up Ted Lilly instead). So if someone has an update on him that would be great. Thanks all!!!
Wed, Mar 4 Duchscherer will get a second opinion on his sore right elbow, and it was uncertain whether he'd be ready to begin the season.
Advice: "His opening day start is definitely in jeopardy," A's manager Bob Geren said Wednesday. Duchscherer had an MRI exam Tuesday and it showed no significant damage. A doctor recommended the two-time All-Star rest his arm for a week.
That's definitely not good news, if he goes back to the bullpen he won't be a closer with both Ziegler and Devine already there,so his value will be minimal. Thanks for the update Slayer Rules.
"....In another note, Justin Duchscherer is back from Los Angeles and he said Dr. Lewis Yocum has recommended the same course of action as the A's medical staff, along with a stronger inflammatory medication. Duchscherer won't throw again until Monday, but he said if he is improved at that point, he believes he can get ready for the season quickly and be ready for Opening Night.
Should the team want him to move back to the bullpen in an effort to keep him healthy - and there is some thinking in that direction - Duchscherer will not be enthusiastic about the idea. He said flat out that he won't do it, though if the decision is made, I'm not sure he'll get a choice. No one has talked to him about it, however, so my guess is that everyone wants to see how he comes out of this recent bout of elbow tenderness and how quickly he can get ready to start. If he has another setback, the bullpen idea might be broached - but Duchscherer does remain the A's best starter at this point, in terms of big-league success at the spot. He did make the All-Star team last year, his first season as a starter."
Fresh off the presses from the San Francisco Chronicle: Justin Duchscherer is scheduled for surgery on his right elbow next week, manager Bob Geren told the San Francisco Chronicle.
