I am in a total points league this year and I need some help. Howard is usually a top 5 player at worst becasue his average does not matter. Would I be better off to select him or Rollins due to how weak the SS position is?

BA doesn't mean much in a points league. I tend to go power heavy in those leagues, however you neglected to post the scoring system.

Do strikeouts count against you? If they do go with rollins if they don't I think you go with howard. In my mind both guys could have big improvements from last year. I think Howard could be 280-300 BA and Rollins just stunk for awhile last year. Rollins may be there in 2nd round if the league isn't to big.

Sorry, Here is the offensive point system:
Stat Category
Value
R-2
1B-1
2B-2
3B-3
HR-4
RBI-2
SB-3
BB-.25
Does this help? So basically the reason Howard is valuable is that every HR he hits is worth 8 pts due to him getting a R, RBI and HR.
So rollins or howard?

No penalty for whiffing at all! Go with Howard, man.

With no damage for K's, Howard is a pretty clear choice here.
Sometimes it takes a crazy person to see the truth. If so, I'm a freaking lunatic.

In my points league you are penalized for k's. In 2007 Rollins was #2 overall in total points, only behind Arod. In 2008, Rollins still scored more points than Howard. In your league not being penalized for whiffs, I'd go with Howard. Rollins will not be too far behind him though as he tally's up points with his hitting and his steals.
