SB Specialists' Value in 5x5 H2H leagues?

Postby BillyHallDisciple » Tue Mar 03, 2009 11:35 pm

I'm curious as to what everyone's take is on having a stolen base specialist on your roster like Willy Taveras in this kind of format. We have two bench spots in this league I have him in, so even though I know Willy's gonna be terrible in pretty much every other category, I can plug him into the line-up a few days a week and count on him to help carry me to a likely win in the SB category.

To me, it seems like a perfect format for a guy like Willy, whereas if you're in a points league or 5x5 without a bench spot, then he's useless. I'm curious in general though, what do y'all think of 1-category dudes like this. Useful or useless?

Hate it, you're giving up so much in the HR and RBI categories every week. I think it becomes difficult to overcome unless you've just got a lineup full of mashers.

A stolen base specialist in a H2H I think is a good option. Not in roto because all those negative stats tend to add up, but in a H2H it works well. I would use a guy like that as a late week secret weapon, go with your primary lineup to being with and then later in the week if you can afford a potential hit in RBIs and HRs and you have a chance to take SB then that's the guy you bring in.
