8th pick 10 team league

Postby TheBull » Tue Mar 03, 2009 8:26 pm

I hold the 8th pick in a 10 team keeper league. I am stuck on who to take with my 1st 2 picks.. I really like Kinsler and Longoria, but if guys like Tex/Sizemore/Utley are available, what do i do...

Just wanted to get some thoughts and suggestions on this....

Thanks

IMHO you're slightly reaching for both. Kinsler is a decent grab at 8. I think Longoria at 13 is a bit of a stretch.

how many players can you keep? how many roster spots are there? If your league counts CI and MI, then this is a pretty decent draft.

I'm assuming this is a keeper league starting from scratch?

Depending on the folks picking ahead of you, Kinsler isn't too bad at the 8th, but if any one of the Braun/Cabrera/Sizemore threesome somehow falls to you, they get the nod.

On the 13th pick, I'd say grab one of the three 1B that could be there, Tex/Berkman/Howard. Unless you picked up Cabrera, that is.

Howard K's a TON...it is -1 for K's in our league.....I could go Utley in the 2nd assuming he falls....and Tex in the 1st. All i am saying is do you think it is a bad start to take Kinsler/Evan with the 1st 2 picks...

You better not take Sizemore if you don't start any OF's!!

Kinsler/Evan isn't a bad start but I'm not fond of Kinsler that early. MCab (unlikely), Braun, Hamilton, Teix in that order for me. Kinsler, Utley, Longoria in the 2nd.

It's not a horrid start, for a new keeper league. And I agree Howard K's a lot, but you sometimes have to sacrifice one category to make others better.

I still think that one of the threesome will be there for you at the 8th pick, unless everyone is working off of the same cheat sheets. I've seen Timmy and John both go in the first 5 (same draft, gonna love buying them for 75 cents on the dollar in July) I've seen Tex go 6th, I've seen Kinsler go 5th, all sorts of oddities.

For the 8th pick, I'd say Sizemore/MCab/Braun/Kinsler, in that order. There are 2B's you can get in the 3rd-5th rounds who will do just fine, so don't target Kinsler as an end-all-be-all.

Coming back around, Longoria is a bit of a reach, but because of the decline at the position over the last few years, position scarcity might bring it into line. Or again, a 1B like Berkman, who should be available.

But do you honestly think Berkman (29) which isnt old...will still be on the increase of productivity. I dont know. He is a hella of a player. I am thinking of long-term. I am thinking young. I dont know...We get 1 pt per total base....So a HR is 4 pts for 4 total bases...plus run 1 pt plus 1 pt for any RBI. But it is also -1 pt for SO. It is 2 pts or SB. 1 pt for BB. I dont know......If this shed's some light, i would like to hear from ya...If its the same, its the same....

Thanx
