Are these next two picks as tough as I am making them??

Postby NittanyLions1 » Tue Mar 03, 2009 7:19 pm

14-team head to head POINTS league...daily changes and we count holds. I still need a utility hitter, 3 more pitchers (we start them all), and 8 bench hitters. I have the next pick and then another pick 8 picks after this one. I am leaning towards taking Nick Johnson here because he has some huge upside if he is healthy since he has a good BB/KO ratio and is always on base (he was a top point scorer in 2006). Spilbourghs also could be good since he is reported to start and lead off and I like Aaron Hill as a good backup/utility also. As far as pitching I was hoping Kuo was there in 8 picks.

SO RIGHT NOW I WAS GOING TO GO WITH NICK JOHNSON THEN KUO. GOOD IDEA?? WHAT WOULD YOU DO? THANKS AND WHIR

1B - Cabrera
2B - Kinsler

I'd take Taveras and then Hanrahan if he is available when it is your turn again.

Hanrahan and Tavares seems to be the consensus and I agree with it.

Oh yeah I forgot about Hanrahan...I had written him off earlier since he is a bit inconsistent and plays for the Nats but his K/9 is nice! So you guys don't like Johnson on the wrap around pick though? I like Taveras but looking at the numbers Spilbourghs, Gerut, Lind and alot of other OFers are comparable. I figured I could get one or two of them later and thus gambling on Johnson's upside would be a good play here???

Not sure how a 50 sb guy is still available in a 14 team league?
You need a backup for Kubel.
I would pick Lind too, Morales at 1B is iffy.

Yeah, Lind is on my list...probably right after these next two picks. Morales has OF eligibility also so if he does well I can swing him into Kubel's spot when Kubel is facing lefties. I also figure out of 8 bench players one will be worthwhile as a starter to fill a utility spot eventually. You dont think they trust Morales at 1B? I see it as being the reason they let Kotchman and Tex go. They finally felt it was his time...the guy has a .325 career AAA avg and was raking in Winter League.

Taveras is around because its a points league (no categories) so steals mean little...I usually prefer high avg. guys which is why I like Spilbourghs and is also the reason I gambled on Morales early.

The more I look I dont think I can let the guys after me have Hanrahan...I am thinking I take him here now!! Still need a hitter next though...

Thanks so far guys! I appreciate the help, but a couple of questions about Hanrahan? He blew 4 saves in 13 chances last year. His K/9 is awesome but he is a bit erratic and had high ERA's in the minors and his first year in the majors. Do you think he keeps the job. The reason I may still lean Kuo actually is because we count 10 pts for saves but 8 pts for holds and -5 for blown saves. To me Kuo is the main setup guy in LA now and should get 25+ holds plus 100+ Ks. This plus he seems to be more reliable (well except for injury risk). If Hanrahan keeps the job I like him more probably but Kuo could be pretty close right. What do you think? Does this change anything? Also Wheeler is there and had a ton of holds and 13 saves last year and could take the closer role in Tampa this year. Is either one a better pick than Hanrahan?

OK...JUST REVIEWED HANRAHANS SEASON...GUY IS MADE TO BE A CLOSER (well until he blows up and I come back here looking for you guys :-D )!! HE'S MINE NOW...still need a hitter next round though. Not sold on Taveras here though since steals dont mean as much in a points league...
