Keeper league quandry...what would YOU do? WHIR

Postby hambone1818 » Tue Mar 03, 2009 11:41 am

I'm in a 10-team, h-2-h, 5x5 keeper (7 players, capped) league, and here are the particulars:

Current Keeper Options:
Soto
Howard *
Miggy *
Kinsler *
Sizemore *
Hamilton *
Manny
Hamels *
Beckett
* - indicates a guaranteed keeper

The final keeper slot goes to one of the three unstarred players, and while I'm leaning toward Manny he's also 36 and currently unsigned. Beckett is 28, had peripherals last year that suggest he was still a top-10 SP, and is..well, signed. I'm not considering Soto as I'm drafting Wieters, so please don't consider him an option, he's listed because of the below trades.

An offer is on the table for Soto and Beckett for a 1st rounder (#2 pick in the draft, after keepers). I have visions of grabbing Chris Davis and Stephen Drew in the first round and I'm salivating. However, do I make this deal knowing that Manny isn't signed?

Here are my options, please pick one of them and if you'd like to expound on your selection that'd be great:
1) keep Manny and make the trade...hope to god Manny signs.
2) Tell the other owner I'm waiting on Manny...if he signs by the draft then I keep him and make the trade, if not I keep Beckett and we can discuss other options.
3) keep Beckett and try to trade Manny and Soto for the 1st rounder.
3) Trade Beckett, Manny and Soto for (one of) E. Santana, C. Billingsley (very unlikely the other owner would give him up), C. Granderson, A. Rios and the 1st rounder.

Any thoughts? I really like my position going into this draft, I have one of three teams that is absolutely demolishing this league so I want to further separate myself from the pack. Thanks, and leave a link, I'll check yours out.

Thanks for you help on mine.

Don't have any experience with Keeper leagues, but I agree with the above. Manny will sign eventually.

Manny will sign sooner or later. Your offense is AWESOME and he makes a nice #3 OF.

Thanks for your help on mine.

Manny's going to sign eventually. Either the Dodgers will cave to Boras' demands, or he'll realize that $25,000,000 for this season is better than $0.00. Keep Manny, and since you're not keeping Soto and Beckett, make the trade.
