I am getting ready to buy a commish league with CBS and a few owners told me about a slow draft that takesplace over a matter of weeks.
Has anyone ever done this? Can you explain how it works?

I'm involved in one right now. We get 6 hours to make a pick. When it's your turn you receive an email letting you know. Our draft shuts down from 11:45 pm EST to 6:00 am EST.; those hours don't count against your 6. Our 18 team league is in the 11 round and we started last Wednesday. I think I prefer to do it all in one night.

This writeup is spot on. I'm in a league where the actual offline draft (via IM) isn't until March 29th, but keepers are due on the 15th and the slow draft starts as soon as all of the keepers are turned in. This allows us to go through a few rounds before the actual draft begins on the 29th, so it doesn't take as long. It's interesting to have a few hours to make a pick versus 60-90 seconds to make a pick.

There's more agony involved in slow drafts. I spent two solid hours debating one pick.

That should be done online; though you could theoretically set it up using the draft applet and just give everyone 12 hours to pick or something.
Probably easiest to do it offline.

Not sure what you mean. Our league is doing this using the CBS draft applet; it seems designed to be able to do this. Why do it offline?

I was not aware that Sportsline sent emails to people when it was there pick. I was envisioning someone having to log into the applet every few hours to see if the guys ahead of him have already picked.

we are doing it his year and I dont like it. It rewards players who have not spent as much time studying for the draft.
With a fast draft people make errors and players slip.

Thanks for all the replies. I think you are right when you say that it rewards people who "do not do their homework".
