You know, I don't mind that game plan at all. You have M-Cab so you don't need Howard, you beef up an already impressive OF, and your trade the left overs for some pitching upgrades or something. I'd do it. Just deal Hart and Rios, McLouth is a deadly #4 OF even if he spends most of the season rotting on your bench. At some point you are bound to have an injury or something though.
I'm strongly leaning towards yes, but the only thing holding me back is who will be available with your 2nd round pick. Here's how I see it: 12 teams x 9 keepers =104 players, then 2 rounds in, say 15 picks? So approximately the 120th best player will be available. Just for argument's sake Andre Ethier/C B Young/Verlander are the 3 guys closest to 120 MDP according to rookies & cream's spreadsheet.
Would you trade Peavy/Howard/Ethier for Braun/Hamilton?
Your keeper list looks alot like mine (Howard, MCab, Kinsler, Sizemore, Hamilton, Manny, Hamels)...it's nice being on top, huh?
Anyway, I'd definitely make this deal, I think there's a TON of mid-round value at SP (guys like Nolasco, Gallardo, Scherzer, etc) and Peavy's peripherals last year (and the injury) make me wonder if he's starting to show some wear.
That offense will be utterly dominant, then you can build your pitching staff in the mid rounds. Good luck!
I dont love that deal. There probably isnt much pitching available to u in the draft. You may need peavy. Also, I dont LOVE Hamilton. He scares me...risky risky.
J24 did the right anaylsis. In a 9 team keeper the draft pick is not tremendously valuable. So Braun and Hamilton far out way Howard and Peavy and a pick in the range of 100 or so.
