Tex vs Longoria

Postby Seanyfever » Tue Mar 03, 2009 1:01 am

Measure them up for me. It is a keeper league so I am looking to get in on Longoria just before his value truly takes off.

I'd be trading away Tex, Ordonez, and maybe Beckett.... for Longoria, Hoffman, and another. However, to me, it comes across as Tex for Longoria. I don't keep the other players. I am getting a first round pick in next year's draft and a small upgrade this year to boot. I think I need a push to make this possibly. I am a pretty big Tex fan and woudl love to see what he does in New York. But the offer is on the table.

I already have Mig Cabrera to cover at first. I also have Hanley at SS and Braun in OF. Longoria would shore me up with some nice keepers for next three years. I have CC and Peavy as keeper pitchers.

Thoughts???
I'll reply to any links left for me. Thanks

I don't like it. I understand your reasoning with the position switch (Cabrera is now only 1B eligible), but I think you're loosing a lot in the deal, even if you aren't keeping the others. As someone who's also in a keeper league, I'd pass.

Help with mine please?

I agree, I think you are losing a lot for one player

I think Tex will be around for the same 'next 3 years' as Longoria, and I'd hang onto Tex.

I disagree since 3B is a weaker postion fantasy wise than 1B and with Cabrera losing 3B eligibility, Longoria looks intriging

Longoria looks intriguing, but I can't see any reason for you to trade Tex / Ordonez / Beckett for him. Maybe Tex straight up but you are severely overpaying.

I agree with this, because Chris Davis and Kevin Youkilis will also be losing 3b eligibility. It's a shallow position talent-wise this year and is only gonna get worse. But it really does seem like you're giving up way too much.

Granted a couple of these guys are more than "next year" but 10 of the top 100 prospects are 3B, and of those 7 are top 50 guys:

Moustakas, Gamel, Alvarez, Vitters, Villalona, Wallace, Triunfel, Walker, Mills, Dominguez

So 3B, as the cycles go, will be a position of depth again.

Either way, no knock on getting Longoria, but the price you would be paying seems steep.

teixeira is straight up much better than longoria. i see no reason to also give up value on the back end of the trade. he should be giving you some extra value for taking longoria over tex.

be careful not to overrate young guys in a keeper league. if tex and longoria could be kept at the same price, why would you assume that longoria is going to outperform tex over the next 3-4 years?
