Offer For Johan Santana... Do I bite??

Postby Verminator » Mon Mar 02, 2009 9:19 pm

In a keeper league (12 team roto, 5X5, straight draft, 8 total keepers with no limit on how long a player can be kept), we have not yet cut down to 8 keepers and have an offer for Johan Santana on the table. Here it is...

I get Johan Santana

I give up a 1st round pick (equates to a 9th rounder in a redraft league and I would still have one pick left in the 1st) and a 7th round pick (equates to a 15th rounder and same story that I still would have one pick in the 7th remaining) and Justin Verlander.

Our league allows picks to be traded and I have about an average of 2 picks per round for the first 12 rounds because I sucked last year and jumped ship.

My Top 7 keepers presently are Sizemore, Fielder, Markakis, Bay, Bruce, Tulo, and Liriano

My dilemma is that Santana would take the place of my 8th keeper (likely Verlander, Werth, Morrow, C Young (SD), or Jimenez) and I could draft someone like Greinke, Slowey, Lackey, Cueto, etc. with that extra first round pick.

Please let me know what you think... WHIR!!! B-)

I think what it boils done to is would you rather have Johan, or one of those other guys that you said would be your 8th keeper (Verlander, Werth, Morrow, C Young (SD), or Jimenez).

You still have a 1st round pick, and I'm sure you won't find anyone close to Johan in the first round of your re-draft. Get'r done!

Yeah, I agree. I would make this happen as you still have a first round pick and you are getting the best pitcher in the game.

id have to agree with the previous guys. the only reason i think the other team would do thsi trade is if he is worried about santanas health, but hey he is no harden so pull it and like it and be proud of it.

I like the trade for you, Sanrana still has 3 solid years left and the players you stated you had to choose from are not all that strong. Now if there was a couple big hitters to choose from it may change my mind but there just dont seem to be any at that slot. Are you missing an available stud that has slipped past you? Double check or grad Johan before the guy changes his mind.

Thanks all...

JT... Our draft hasn't start yet but I was equating the trade and guessing at who could be available by the time that I would be able to pick my extra 1st rounder. Logically, a strong bat could also be available of approximate 9th round value. I have the first overall pick of the draft as well and would take a bat in all likelihood.

Any other opinions... I see where the majority opinion is!! ;-D

So who do you expect to be available with that pick you mention? Its hard to say without that information, but from what it is sounding like, Johan is way better than what you could get otherwise so its a great move for you.
