Webb or Morneau in 3rd

Postby fortune cookies » Sat Feb 28, 2009 9:07 am

14 team standard 5x5 h2h. I have the 4th overall and plan on taking Wright with that pick, and at 25th an outfielder like Lee, Holiday, etc. But at 32nd, do I go Morneau (I will not see another upper tier 1st baseman again) or Webb (to anchor the staff).

I have been drafting 4th in 12 team mocks and the majority of the time Morneau does not make it to my 2nd pick. If both were there in the 3rd though I would take him over Webb. You might have better luck taking him in the 2nd if he is there and taking someone like Markakis in the 3rd.

In a 14 team H2H I doubt Morneaue would make it back around to you in the third, but if he was there I probably would take him over Webb.

I'd nab him with your 2nd round pick. He won't make it to the 3rd unless you've got owners who jump on SPs early

Chances are good that Lee and/or Holiday won't be there at 25 either. Maybe Lee, but again depends on how guys value SP

I'd contemplate: Wright, Morneau (he'll be gone tho so think about Fielder here), Markakis/Bay

Another option: Wright, Beltran/Lee/Manny/Soriano, A Gonzalez
C-Baker
1B-Lee
2B-Roberts
3B-Reynolds
SS-HRamirez
LF-Bay
CF-McCutchen
RF-Hawpe
UT-Willingham, Hairston
BN-FSanchez

SP-Lackey, Burnett
RP-Rivera, Wagner
P-Baker, Gregerson, Meche
BN-Motte

DL - Zimmerman, Volquez

Thanks for the input guys. The reason I said Holiday/Lee was because the guys I am drafting with in this particular league are amatuers, and almost all just follow Yahoo's rankings. This year, I see Lee and Holiday undervalued (at 26th and 36th) and my pick is 25th, so there is a decent chance they are there. However, I do see the point about Morneau (30th) and my pick is 32nd. So at that point I will basically wait and see if I get lucky and he lasts or take Webb/A Gonz/Other
