H2H Keeper League: Granderson or Soriano? WHIR

Postby sigriffey » Fri Feb 27, 2009 6:10 pm

Need some help here

I have 5 keepers (Pujols, Rollins, Cabrera, Sizemore, Peavy) and need to decide on the 6th. We keep them thru the 2010 season.

Do I keep Soriano or Granderson?

hitting categories in this H2H League are:

RUNS, SINGLES, DOUBLES, TRIPLES, HOMERUNS, RBI, WALKS, STEALS, AVERAGE

Bump

Anyone?

My dilemma is that this league counts triples, so Granderson's value is heightened by that. Sometimes one or more triples a week will win the category in this league. Otherwise, if not for his injury concerns, I take Soriano all the way.

So, do I take Granderson for his triples and relative durability
Or
Do I take the overall stronger player in Soriano, risks notwithstanding?

Anyone project their stats for 09?

First of all, I don't think you can go wrong with either player.

You say that you keep these players through 2010. Does that mean that you will have to drop them after 2010, or do you have the option to keep them again at that time? To me, that makes the difference of who you pick.

If you will be forced to drop the players you keep now after the 2010 season, then I would say keep you should keep Soriano. Short term, he is probably the better option over Granderson, but not by a lot.

However, if you will have the option to keep these players again after 2010, then I would lean towards Granderson. He's 5 years younger than Soriano and has the potential to be a stud for a long time.

I stole these numbers from ESPN, but here are some projections for these guys in '09:

Soriano: 99/32/86/25/.278

Granderson: 106/23/66/16/.284

As you pointed out, when you factor in triples for Granderson and durability for Soriano, it becomes difficult to seperate these guys. So, again, I would look at their long term potential in a keeper league.

If you have them for 2 years ONLY, go with Soriano......if you have 'em for AT LEAST 2 years, then go with Granderson.

Bu the way, nice group of Keepers!

Could you take a look at my trade question for me? Thanks!

Responding to the question you asked in your answer to my question...........

Yeah, since they will have to go back in the draft for 2011, I would keep Soriano. In non-keeper leagues this season, I have Soriano ranked approx 1.5 rounds higher than Granderson (of course, that's for 5x5 leagues so it doesn't factor in triples). I would expect that next season they will be very close to equal.

Sure Soriano has more injury risk (I certainly wont guarantee that he will play 150+ games), but I think he has a higher upside than Granderson for this season, which more than offsets the risk.

Like I said, I think that the injury risk of Soriano is worth the upside, at least in the short term. However, your other keepers are very impressive. So it would be hard to argue with you if you decided that you would rather play it safe and and sacrifice Soriano's upside in exchange for Granderson's durability.

Just remember, though, just because Granderson doesn't have a history of injury, that isn't a guarantee that he will stay healthy.

Thanks for responding to my question...I think you summed up my feelings of the trade: "do I have enough steals justify letting go of Wright?" I think Tex and Wright are basically equal in runs, HR, RBI and avg.
