Who To Keep?

Postby sstobe » Fri Feb 27, 2009 11:16 am

Keeper H2H, Offense: R,HR,RBI,SB,OBP Pitching:QS,K,SV,ERA,WHIP

Each player moves up a round every year we keep them. So if I keep Hamilton this year he would count as a 9th rounder next year.

We can keep a total of 8. Max of 2 from rounds 1-5, Max of 2 from rounds 6-10 and the rest from 11-24, or we can keep more from 11-24. I've put the ones in bold I feel I have to keep and I have a big decision for the last three.

C- Brian Mccann 22
1B- Joey Votto 24
2B- Chase Utley 1
SS- Yunel Escobar 14.03
3B- David Wright 1
OF- Jay Bruce 24
OF- Ryan Braun 23
OF- Manny Ramirez 4.03
Util- Josh Hamilton 10.03

BN- Chris Dickerson 24
BN- Chris B. Young 16
DL- Justin Upton 24

SP- Chad Billingsley 8.02
SP- Ben Sheets 7.08
RP- Johnathan Papelbon 19
RP- Francsico Cordero 6.02
P- Kerry Wood 24.03
P- BJ Ryan 12.03
P- Joba Chambelain 24

BN- Justin Masterson 24
BN- Pedro Martinez 9.04
BN- Jon Lester 13.07
BN- Francisco Liriano 18
BN- Joel Hanrahan 24
BN- Jeff Samardzija 24
DL- Joel Zumaya 15.08
DL- Yovani Gallardo 23

It is coming down to three out of Mccann, Upton, Liriano, Papelbon, Gallardo and Chamberlain imo.

I would definitely keep Votto for a 24th rounder. I wouldn't keep a closer, even if it is Papelbon. Liriano in the 18th and Galladro in the 23rd are too good to pass up, IMO. Joba is nice, but there is the question about his role, and he usually has high pitch counts, making his quality start total a bit light. I would also consider Billingsley, but the difference between him in the 8th and Liriano and Galladro where they are is too wide. Upton doesn't even warrant consideration to me. Bruce is nice, but to me, getting Votto to fill a position of need is better than keeping a third OF. If you really want to keep him (Bruce), I would send Galladro packing.

McCann and Votto in the 20's is too good to pass up. I like Upton a lot but you are already keeping 3 OF. Papelbon in the 18th is also way too good to pass up.

You need to do some trading. The guys on Pogo's list are all very tough to throw back. As is Upton, Gallardo, and Lincecum. You need to package together a 3 for 1 deal and strengthen yourself somewhere.

I appreciate all the feedback. I have tried to make deals, but unfortunately the guys in the league don't have room to make 3 for 1 or 2 for one deals since we can only keep 8, so trades have been out of the question.

Thats crazy. There must be teams with much worse keepers than you in a league with this format. Oh well. Pinch your nose and make some tough decisions I guess.
