Help Appreciated 7-8 Keepers*Update Draft Results*

Postby jdwilli09 » Thu Feb 26, 2009 7:45 am

Hello, thank you in advance to all who reply to my thread. It is greatly appreciated. This is a keeper league with either 7 or 8 keepers still being debated. 12 team league, H2H weekly, standard 5x5, 21 roster spots one DL slot. We play C,1B,2B,SS,3B,OFx3,Util,SPx3,RPx2,Px3. I won the league last year with what I feel is a very solid team and the keepers are driving me nuts. I'll list the whole roster even though a few are obviously not keepers:
Lance Berkman (Hou - 1B,OF)
Shin-Soo Choo (Cle - OF)
Carl Crawford (TB - OF)
Curtis Granderson (Det - OF)
Raúl Ibañez (Phi - OF)
Evan Longoria (TB - 3B)
Bengie Molina (SF - C)
Dustin Pedroia (Bos - 2B)
Pablo Sandoval (SF - C,1B,3B)
Mark Teixeira (NYY - 1B)
Troy Tulowitzki (Col - SS)
Pitching
Matt Cain (SF - SP)
Rich Harden (ChC - SP)
Brad Lidge (Phi - RP)
Tim Lincecum (SF - SP)
Gil Meche (KC - SP)
Jonathan Papelbon (Bos - RP)
Ben Sheets (Mil - SP)
Edinson Vólquez (Cin - SP)
Brandon Webb (Ari - SP)
Todd Wellemeyer (StL - SP,RP)
Brian Wilson (SF - RP)

I think that one of the things bothering me so much is the fact that I am actually thinking of letting both Papelbon and Lidge go back into the draft. Also, we are allowed to trade players for picks, such as I can try to get a 1st rounder for Volquez or something. But of course i can't hang my hat on getting 3 first rounders and being able to pick one or both of them back up because who know's who will give me what for whom. Thanks again for all of your help and best of luck to everyone in your leagues.

Welcome to the cafe. I picked 7 . The 8th , ( If you have it ) would be between Papelbon and Granderson. I don't think either would be a bad choice. I personally would take Granderson , and take my chances at closer during the draft. Nice Team !

At this point I would agree the Papelbon should not be kept. You definitely need to make some moves and you have the horses to make such moves. I would start with Crawford.

Thanks for the help so far everyone. I just think I just needed some backup in dropping both of my closers. It was decided today that it'll be 8 keepers so I'll probably go with Berkman,Tex,Pedroia,Crawford,Longoria,Granderson,Lincecum and Webb. It hurts to put that much talent back into the draft pool though. I think if I can swap Lidge and Volquez for 1st or 2nd rounders Ill be a happy camper.

Well, we had our draft early this morning and I thought I'd post the results for my team and try to get some feedback. We ended up keeping seven. I'll list my keepers with a * in front of their name and include the round I picked each player and the pick number starting with round 8.

Matt Weiters (13,146)
*Mark Teixeira
*Dustin Pedroia
Stephen Drew (9,98)
*Evan Longoria
*Lance Berkman
*Carl Crawford
Nate McClouth (8,95)
Adam Jones (12,143)
Pablo Sandoval (14,167)
Pat Burrell (18,215)
*Tim Lincecum
*Brandon Webb
Ervin Santana (10,119)
Matt Cain (11,122)
Edinson Volquez (15,170)
Justin Duchscherer (17,194)
Frank Francisco (16,191)
Chris Perez (19,218)

We also have 2 open spots to fill before the season starts off of the waiver wire, which I think I will add another SP and hopefully a IF that is both SS and 2B eligible. I picked up Sandoval partly becuase he is C eligible and can fill in there if Weiters isnt with BAL at the beginning of the year in order to delay his clock. But since we have 7 keepers I think ultimately that I may want to keep him and maybe I can swing a deal with lance berkman sometime in the middle of the season to help win back to back titles and get a spot available for Weiters. It's a long season though, we'll see what happens. Thanks to those who responded before and anyone who gives me their thoughts on my team as it sits now. Good luck to all.

Sandoval will make an oustanding catcher, you could deal wieters for maximum dollar when he gets called up as an altertantive idea, but then you'd be left with a hole there, so that might not be wise.

You lack closers. Why even have any RP if your punting saves. Better yet, if you are punting saves and this is a categorial or roto league instead get yourself some top end MRP instead of guys that might close.

I might have kept Paps over Crawford you didn't exactly need him. Your team is very good offense amazing.
The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!
