How does my First Team Shape Up?

Postby waino50 » Wed Feb 25, 2009 8:34 am

Here is a team I just drafted for yesterday. I will post the team by rounds.

1. Josh Hamilton (Tex - OF)
2. Jimmy Rollins (Phi - SS)
3. Manny Ramírez (LAD - OF)
4. Jake Peavy (SD - SP)
5. Brandon Webb (Ari - SP)
6. Joe Nathan (Min - RP)
7. Dan Uggla (Fla - 2B)
8. Mariano Rivera (NYY - RP)
9. Jonathan Broxton (LAD - RP)
10. Edinson Vólquez (Cin - SP)
11. Joey Votto (Cin - 1B)
12. Adam Wainwright (StL - SP)
13. Bengie Molina (SF - C)
14. Nelson Cruz (Tex - OF)
15. Jorge Cantú (Fla - 1B,3B)
16. Coco Crisp (KC - OF)
17. Brett Myers (Phi - SP)
18. Alex Gordon (KC - 3B)
19. Ryan Theriot (ChC - SS)
20. Chris Carpenter (StL - SP)
21. Eric Byrnes (Ari - OF)

I have a good base 4 in Hamilton,Rollins, Manny and Uggla but think I may not have enough in the rest of the team. What do you think? I will rate your team in return.

Shouldn't have any shortage of K's or Saves with that pitching staff. However, I would be wary of Peavy's health. Not the biggest fan of Gordon, see if you can find another option out there at 3B. Your offense seems pretty solid, although you might need another outfielder to complement Manny and Hamilton since Cruz is very young and might be inconsistent.

I like that you reached and grabbed J Hamilton in the first round, I have him 8th on my board and Rollin isn't far behind him, so great first two picks. I would be wary of your average in this league as a lot of your guys are not avg guys but will fill in nicely in certain categories. I am not an advocate of drafting relievers so early and I think you missed out on some solid offense by taking Nathan, Rivera and Broxton so close together but good comeback with Votto in the 11th round. Good luck, I would try to tradeone of your closers for a 2nd or 3rd starter. I suggest Rivera because veen if you want 3 closers, some guy will go down early and you can pick up his replacement. I am a big fan of Matt Cain, Billingsley this year, see if someone will go for that. Good luck!
