Roto/auction league ($260 total per team)...I am attempting to identify my final keeper. I can choose one from between (dollar values indicate amount I would have to pay to keep):
Cain ($6) D. Lee ($11) J.R. Towles ($2) Tulowitski ($10)
I believe Cain and Towles are fairly valued for what I can keep them for. I believe D. Lee may be slightly undervalued and Tulo slightly overvalued compared to their respective "keeper prices".
Cain is like Peavy, if he'd just put it all together, plus he's been the beneficiary of bad luck whereas Lincey gets it all. I expect Cain's win totals to go up. I tell you the truth, that's not bad value for Tulo either. He's a great SS (who will bounce back just fine).
Due to the fact that 1b is so deep I'd throw lee back and try to get another 1b like him (maybe Votto if your looking for a bargain).
If you don't have a SS keeper, Tulo would not be a bad idea. SS is the thinnest fantasy position. 2b isn't as shallow as some think, and I might also add, catcher isn't either with the influx of good catchers we will see and are (just wait for colome, weiters and santana) that will give catcher position nice depth (for this year i expect posada to rebound nicely).
Just remember that.
Could you tell us what the other SSs and their values (nad your other keepers as well). That would also help us to determine which of these might be the best fit for you. If your already keeping pitching I believe I'd take the SS here.
The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!

Thanks for the thoughtful answer and thanks to all who have replied. I am able to keep six and the other five I have tentatively identified as keepers (subject to change with some of the Tulo comments!) are as follows:
Adam LaRoche ($2) C. Hart ($4) W. Taveras ($3) L. Milledge ($2) T. Lincecum ($3)... bargain of the decade?
So... Cain for $6 and/or Tulo for $10.
Lincecum and Hart are obvious locks, I think Milledge also for that price, LaRoche seems like a bargain... so, keep Taveras and his potential 50+ steals for $3 and go with either Cain or Tulo or throw Willie T. back into the pool?
i worry about his playing time as the year goes on. I am like Dusty I like the balance he can provide if he puts the ball on the ground and legs out more hits his BA will go up.
Due to the fact your already keping Lincy, I'd keep Tulo.
