seems like he will be the sarter opening day. with a good couple of weeks he may have the job. i am week at 2nd. loretta is my only option. i have one roster spot open should i pick him up? better option over loretta??
from big leaguers.com--
Mar 4 Roberts likely will be the Orioles' starting second baseman to begin the 2004 campaign, as his main competition, Jerry Hairston, broke his right ring finger while stealing a base in Thursday's exhibition game and will be sidelined for at least a month. Roberts has been slowed as of late by back spasms, but hopes to return to action by the weekend.
Advice: Roberts will be evaluated and receive treatment on a daily basis. He batted .270 with five home runs, 41 RBI and 23 stolen bases in 112 games last season.

Brian Roberts was pretty good when I had him last year while Hairston was out with an injury. If you need stolen bases, grab him. If not, stick with Loretta.

the reason roberts ahs the job is because hairston broke his finger...when hairston comes back roberts could lose the job...(look at hairstons page on big leaguers)

I agree, if Hairston comes back healthy the job is his. I can't remember his name, but the O's have a former 1st round pick in the minors that has played well in the spring so far. He probably won't come up this year, but could be the 2nd baseman of the future. (?)

You're probably thinking about the other Hairston whose going to be better than his older brother: Scott Hairston. But he's in the D'Backs' system.

No, the top player in the O's system is second baseman Mike Fontenot, who has had a great spring so far. He's 5-11 with 5 RBIs and 2 HRs. He won't play this year, but it's very likely he'll supplant Hairston and Roberts in a year to a year and a half.
