Salty or Pierzynski for Catcher?

Postby spberg82 » Tue Feb 24, 2009 3:40 pm

I drafted A.J. in the late rounds of my draft, but there's been talk that Saltamacchia will be the starter for Texas this year. I like what I saw from him last year and am thinking of grabbing him in place of Pierzynski...any thoughts?

I'm in a similar position got Posada but need a backup. I just dropped Salty for some middle infield help. He's a FA now but AJ just hit on waivers. I'm assuming Salty will stay in FA for a while until it's definate that he is starting... I heard Teagarden is decent and may give him a run for his money. Just not sure if I should drop a pitcher and pick up AJ...

But if I were you I would stick with the sure thing in AJ.

A.J.'s the real deal in this case, even if Salty does get the start he'll share alot of it with Teagarden who's in my opinion the better defensive player, not to mention he was hitting pretty darn good, enough to cause a stir or who should start this year. With that said stay with A.J.

I guess it would depend on what you expect from your catcher position. AJ's durable and you know what he brings to the table with no upside. Salty may or may not get the AB's to reach his projected #'s but still has some upside being young. With the past couple of injuries that he's sustained and the uncertainty of playing time, the risk may not out weigh the reward. I tend to take the safer route when it comes to drafting my teams. I like AJ.

I would go with AJ, Salty is competing with at least one other guy for time and theres no guarantee hell play full time anyway unless he gets traded. 2 years from now he's probably the easy choice but this year go with AJ
