Is now too early to pick up Carpenter?

Postby NittanyLions1 » Tue Feb 24, 2009 12:45 pm

14-team head-to-head POINTS league (no categories). We start 14 Pitchers and the pickings are starting to thin out. Still 14 picks to go until I am up but I am going to start gambling on some pitchers as I think my hitting is very solid. My next pick is #205. Carpenter has an ADP of 170 on cbssporstline but I was wondering is now too early to take a chance on him? Granted they may not be available when it gets to me but what pitchers below would you take over him? THANKS

Carpenter should only be drafted in the final rounds as a back up to Chris Perez if you drafted him and you're light on closers (for the record I don't really think Carp will ever get the closing job). He has little to no fantasy value.

I think I would take a closer next. Bell or Capps. As far as starting pitchers , I would much rather have Randy Johnson than Carpenter. Maybe Carpenter a little later in the draft.

I don't think Carp is trying to become a closer

At this point they are looking to start him. He just threw 30 pitches from a mound and said he felt good but his location was off a bit.

The more I think about it, the more I lean towards grabbing one of the closers such as Qualls, Francisco, Lyon, or Bell. I think with my hitting, all I need is some solid points from my pitchers. Closers tend to put up consistent points each week so... Why try for a home run when there are fairly steady options there right? Maybe if he falls a little more, then we will see...

I agree he would rather start, but the Cards are considering him as a closer.
