What is all this $*** ?

Postby Tenacious D-Store » Mon Feb 23, 2009 8:31 pm

I just joined a yahoo league to help a friend fill it in time before the draft starts. What the hell is wrong with people!? No one does 5x5 anymore? I like to think I know my baseball but I need help figuring out what some of these stats are.

R (runs), H (hits), 3B(triples), HR(home runs), RBI (runs batted in), SB(steals), TB(total bases), PO(put outs), A(assists), E(errors), FPCT (fielding %), AVG (average), OPS (on base slugging %), OFA (? something to do with fielding?), DPT (double plays turned)

IP (innings), W( wins), CG (complete games), SHO (shut outs), SV (saves), K (strikeouts), HLD Holds), TB (total bases allowed), ERA (earned run average), WHIP (walks/hits per IP's), K/9 (strike outs per 9), RW (?we start a right winger IDFK?), H/9 Hits per 9), BB/9 (walks per 9), QS (quality starts).

Can some of you help me fill in the blanks or help with anything I'm wrong about. This is the most ridiculous league ever. I won't even make fun of you clowns who do 4 team leagues and take them seriously anymore after seeing this.

You can always tell people who have never set up a league before. They get to the scoring categories page, and as they work through the list they think "yeah, that should count". Perhaps wanting to make the game as "real" as they can. Not realizing they create an abortion of a league.

In other words you don't know either. This is brutal, since when do fielding stats have anything to do with fantasy sports. This is what I get for being a nice guy and trying to help a kid out. The commish is 16 or so and just someone I know from another forum. It's a H2H league and I didn't want him to have to boot someone to even it up.

No I do know, and the answer is it's a stupid league setup. See if you can persuade the guy to change it, clearly he didn't understand what he was doing.

If it's too late for that and you want to go ahead and play it out, all those additional categories water down the normal ones. So put less emphasis on steals for example. In the end, likely you'll come up with rankings that look not much unlike what you'd expect. With so many fielding categories, I wonder how those apply to DHs? Something to keep in mind when drafting.

Minutes away from the draft, he's the commish and I'll have to respect his league. He'll learn like the rest of us. Apparently I am the only one in the league who sees an issue with it.

OFA = Outfield assists??? Could it truely be that stupid. That's the answer I got from Mr. Commish. Why do I think I'm a 32 year old man in a league with 12-16 year olds. When I'm being judged at Heaven's gate, St. Peter better remember this crap.

With Putouts, I'll be drafting 1st base heavy, esp with 3 utl spots.

Not sure why, but that actually made me laugh. How do my Outfield assists look? Should I drop Beltran for Shin Shoo Choo, I hear he has quite an arm...lol. My teams are typically a little light on speed. In a H2H league with a trillion scoring cats, I'm even less concerned about it than I normally would be,
