Keepers Part 2

This has to do with the guidelines of keeping players.

Choice 1 (My favorite choice)
-You forfeit your draft pick in the corresponding round of your keeper.
Example, you select Joe Shmo 1st round this year. You want to keep Joe Shmo next year, you do not have a 1st round pick next year. I select Frank Jones in the 10th round. I want to keep Frank Jones next year, I do not have a 10th round pick next year.

Choice 2
-Limiting keepers. You may only keep one player from your first 3 rounds, two from the next three, and two from the rest.

Choice 3
-No guidelines, just keep whoever you want.

I'd agree with j24. This article from Fangraphs has me convinced that F-Jo is going to blow up this year.

I voted for choice one yesterday but in the meantime I've had a slight change of heart... what about keeping the core of the idea (lose the round at which you picked a player) except for, say, the first three rounds which have to be thrown back to the fa pool for next year?

I mean, it's probably going to be pretty easy to decide to keep M-Cab or Wright unless something catastrophic happens to them. With 5 keepers, there's a low incentive to keep any low round guys unless they are top tier good, which can happen but I don't think we should count on. I think we should make the keeper selection more interesting and bar a set number of the top rounds.

This leads to my second question... what about players that you picked off the wire during the season (say that super rookie that turns into a stud) and you decide to keep him. What round would you lose for him? Haven't seen that addressed, I don't think.
