14 team

h2h

Roster Positions:

C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util, Util

SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P

BN, BN, BN, BN, DL

Stat Categories:

H, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OBP, XBH

IP, W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP, QS

I the 13th pick in the draft. and its snaking (13, 16, 42, 45, 60, 63) I've put together possible tier rankings for each positions-as far as players i'd could see being there when I pick. as far a possible mock for my first 6 picks i was thinkin...

Round 1: Eyes on Teixiera, Utley, Fielder (when all is said and done I can see both Tex and Chase being gone at this point. My first choice would be Utley, but I think i take the reach on Prince Fielder
Round 2: Evan Longoria is the pick here. I'm sure hell be there and 3rd base doesn't have much depth.
Round 3: This is where I'm stuck. I looking at OFs, but not sure who could be left at this point? Markakis looks like he may be there. If I'm lucky maybe Vlad or Holliday falls. or maybe I'll pick Justin Morneau to play one of the UTIL spots. Also if i can pick up an ace like Roy Halladay here, i just might do it, then not look again until rounds 7-10. When it comes down to it i think BPA regardless of position is the way to go with my 3rd round pick.
Round 4: Brian McCann there are very few C that give you solid production at the plate. and i think having that would give me an advantage. besides for my next pick i bet all of the top catchers will be gone. I think it's ok for me to reach a little bit at this point.
Round 5: It's toss up for me here, I'm eyeing guys like Dan Uggla, Granderson, Rios, Adam Dunn. But im not sure who will be there at this point-its a crap shoot.

I can't predict who is going to be there when i pick. i going to try to flow with the draft but i was just wondering if some of you guys with more experience agree with the direction I'm going. all the help and feedback would be great. leave a link and ill help out in yours!

I think you have the right idea in going best player available. With that being said

13-Teixeria or Utley might be there. If not I think it is a reach to take Fielder as I doubt he is BPA.

16-Longoria is solid. Here would be the place to look at Fielder if you are considering him over Longoria

42-gotta go BPA. If you want an OF somebody (not sure who but somebody) like Vlad, Rios, Markakis will fall or look at Kemp

45-yeah if you want a C here one of the M's who catch will be there

60-?? to hard to predict who might be here.

Take BPA. I like to try and project how a draft will go and who I would take at each pick because it is a lot of fun. HOWEVER, when you do that run MANY what ifs. You don't want to go into a draft assuming Longoria will be there at 16 (he likely will but you never know) and you will have your 3B than because what if he isn't there at 16 and you don't get your 3B there? You end up scrambling looking for a 3B because you haven't researched the next few 3B's and you haven't researched who you would take at 16 if it isn't Longoria. So again if you are going to project the draft run A LOT of projections because it is fun and the more what ifs you run the better prepared you will be.

Also partake in some mock drafts before your draft. They will help you get used to the pace and help you react on the fly. Do some 14 team mocks and in some of them (not all but some) sign up early enough that you get to choose your draft slot and choose the #13 slot. If I was to give any advice to any owner before the draft it would be to do mock drafts. You will notice that the most experienced players here still do mocks before their drafts.

what if neither of my top hitters are available at 13. is it worth it to look at an SP (Santana, Lincecum, Sabathia) at #13?

C is slightly deeper than most people think this year, you don't have to splurge on one of the top guys to get some decent production. If they fall thats one thing. I would focus on OF before C personally.

as far as your first pick. You could try targetting kinsler or j-roll. Kinsler sure be there and frankly I think he'll put up better numbers than chutley.

Hope it helps!

yea kinsler and j-roll could be choices-i was thinking of possibly looking to punt steals because it's only one category in my format. and because runs arent a category the lead off guys don't have that cat to fall back on. but at this point i may not have a choice.

interesting thought about catcher

If Tex, Howard, or Hamilton drop here, I'd take either one in that order. I'm still skittish on taking Utley, wondering how the hip will factor in during exhibition games or within the first month, but I suppose it's best to get April out of the way. In H2H, I'd give Utley the slight nod over Kinsler.

In this spot, I like Beltran or Carlos Lee for consistency's sake. As much as I like Longoria, I think you have a chance at Davis in the 5th round.

Vlad should be there in that round and so should Halladay. Holliday is still a 2nd round pick and if not, he'll drop as far as the early 3rd round. Morneau won't fall to the #42 pick.

In a single C league, I'm passing on McCann. I'd rather have a guy like Doumit or Iannetta fill in at catcher and get someone of better overall value than McCann there.

Don't think either Granderson or Rios will be there, I believe Dunn will and there's a chance Uggla can fall here. Uggla's the choice here unless something better comes around.
