Ortiz a keeper??? WHIR!

Postby Ookie » Mon Feb 23, 2009 3:35 pm

It's a 16 team, roto league in yahoo... Every team gets to keep 2 keepers and draft according to last year's standings...
I finished 4th, so I'll have the 13th pick after all 16 teams announce their 2 keepers... It's a ridiculous 12x12 league, so pretty much every stat counts... (R, 1B, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, BB, K, E, AVG, OPS, IP, W, L, CG, SHO, SV, H, HR, BB, K, ERA, WHIP)

Here are my keeper "options":
1. David Wright - 3B
2. ?

David Ortiz - Util
Jacoby Ellsbury - LF, CF, RF
James Shields - SP

-Ortiz might be the obvious choice, but his eligibility as Utility only is devastating to his value... I'm not too sure what he'll be able to do this year after battling injuries, age and losing Manny...
-Ellsbury is an all-around guy who entered camp at top shape and is eligible for all 3 field positions (which is always a plus) And I feel like he's going to have a great year...
-Shields might not be the best pitcher but he puts up numbers, innings and complete games...

Who would you keep?

I might take Ellsbury instead if those are your only options.

You finished fourth out of 16 teams and those are your best options? If so, take ortiz.

Ortiz should be healthier this year and expect him to bounce back.

Good luck.

Please help with mine.

16 team leagues distrot value. Ortiz is not the stud that you drafted in the 2nd round but he is still your best option.

in a 5x5 i'd go ellsbury, but in this league i think you have to go papi still, especially considering you only keep two each year. you can easily find someone else if he drops off quickly.

as an aside, it's interesting to think that the fact papi doesn't play in the field actually helps his value when errors are a category.

Assuming you don't lose the round you drafted a guy in, I would keep Ortiz. If it is based on where you took the guy last year, I would take Ellsbury, cause I'm sure he has way better value.

Thanks for the help with mine.

If it wasnt' a keeper league I'd say to go with Ortiz, but considering it is then you are better off with Elllsbury, he has a lot more upside and can benefit you more in the "ridiculous" 12X12 (LMFAO) league you are in... gotta think beyond just this year obviously, so I'd say Ellsbury is the best keeper option...

Thanks for the replies...

May I add I also have Papelbon as an option.
He's my top SV option, but no one else kept closers and I don't think it's valuable to keep a closer...

Any other opinions? Seems like most people would keep Ortiz... weird.

As Pedros Little Friend mentioned, the fact that Ortiz doesn't play the field helps in the E category, which is why in this league he was solid as a 1B... but Util only??? just don't know, have a bad feeling about it.

Skins Fanatic: you don't lose the round you drafted the player. You just draft every round with whoever you kept.
