I'm wondering what his value will be next year. The Nats offense is good, but their pitching is what makes them such a terrible ballclub. A guy in my keeper league has him, and I was wondering if he is worth pursuing now. Is it possible he can be a high end fantasy starter next year? If anyone has previous examples of immediate success, I'd like to see what can be done.

Everyone says he is better than Prior, but I guess you could hope for a Prior-like fantasy impact. His numbers the first year and a half were out standing:

2002 - 19 GS, 6-6, 3.32 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 147 K in 116.2 IP (11.3 K/9, 2.9 BB/9)
2003 - 30 GS, 18-6, 2.43 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 245 K in 211.1 IP (10.4 K/9, 2.1 BB/9)

Still, pursuing him now might be difficult. I can't imagine that any half way intelligent manager would be willing to part with him.

Having seen him twice, I am 100 percent a believer in his ability, and I think the Nationals will draft and eventually sign him. I don't think he will pitch in the big leagues this season, but I do think he'll win a rotation job out of spring training next year and have good fantasy impact in his rookie campaign. He has three quality pitches, including a triple-digit fastball and Frisbee-like slider, which makes me think he's going to make the adjustment to major league hitters fairly quickly.

What is his third pitch? I don't think he utilized his change up much at all.

The thing is, successful college pitchers who made an immediate impact like Lincecum and Prior quickly developed their change up. If Strassy wants to be an elite pitcher in MLB, then he'll have to show that he has a legit MLB change up.

thanks for the heads up. Another heads up for those with minor league slots. He can not officially be moved to your minor league slot until he signs. Until then, he will have to stay a reserve. Just an FYI.

Well the longer it takes him to get a contract signed the lesser chances he has of pitching in September. I'm thinking this contract will be inked on the deadline August 17th (I just read that they bumped the deadline from the 15th to the 17th so it was on a work day?)...
