Another day, another back-to-back pick.

Postby Southern Illinois Cardinals Fan » Sat Feb 21, 2009 8:30 am

Hey guys. First I want to say thank you for all the help I am receiving. I am still new to fantasy baseball so I am glad I found a great place like this. I will soon be up and was wondering who you'd take (I have some opinions but I wanna check to see who you like here).

Here is my team:
C:
1B: Albert Pujols
2B:
3B: Ryan Zimmerman
SS: Hanley Ramirez
OF: Ryan Ludwick
OF: Alfonso Soriano
OF: Nate McLouth
Util: Magglio Ordonez
Bench:
Rick Ankiel
Troy Glaus
Jay Bruce

SP: Adam Wainwright
SP: Chris Carpenter
SP: Dan Haren
SP: AJ Burnett
SP:
RP: Joakim Soria
RP:

Prospects

1: Madison Bumgarner
2: Brett Wallace
3: Cameron Maybin
4: Mike Moustakas
5: Dexter Fowler
6: Andrew McCutchen
7: Max Ramirez
8: Gordon Beckham

4: Andrew McCutchen
5: Max Ramirez
6: Gordon Beckham

While it is only the 10th round, we also had 6 keepers so it is somewhat like a 16th round pick. Here are the best players available:
C: Ianetta, B. Molina, Shoppach, Posada, Snyder
1B: Atkins, C. Jackson, Swisher, Cantu, M. Jacobs
2B: J. Lopez, K. Johnson, Cano, Polanco, Aviles
3B: Atkins, Gordon, Figgins, Cantu, Reynolds
SS: M. Young, Peralta, Aviles, Tejada, O. Cabrera
OF: V. Wells, Hunter, Pierre, Nady, C. Jackson, Bradley (also Chris B. Young)
SP: Sheets, Jer. Weaver, Myers, Harang, C. Young, Vazquez, Carmona, Lilly
RP: Hoffman, Ziegler, Corpas, Isringhausen, Saito, H. Bell

I was thinking about taking Ianetta and either Carmona or Harang. I think they are both decent risk but could potentially have a high reward. What would you do?

Cano is interesting. I am wondering what you think his stats will be.

i would go with Cano and then Heath Bell. Maybe not the two best players on the board, but probably the two that make the most sense for your team.

I like Cano this year. He had an off year last year, but the guy has the chance to have a huge bounce back year. It wasn't that long ago that Cano was thought of one of the guys you needed to lock up at 2B in a medium or deep keeper.

As far as the pitchers left, I too am high on Harang and also like Vazquez this year.

not sure why everyone says Iannetta and not also Shoppach, either of which would be real good.

Cano has always just been one of those guys I avoid but I don't think I could blame you if you took him.
I'm a little confused as to why Atkins is still available and I really think he's better than the two third basemen you already have. If you're in a league that makes a lot of deals, you could consider drafting and trading.

Taking two position players (or even one) and which positions really depends on what the other teams look like and how well they've filled out the positions you need. If most everyone has catchers and 2nd and they're soft at 3rd. I'd take Atkins. If only one of those two positions have filled out for the other teams... say catcher, I'd draft 2nd and a pitcher because you know a decent catcher will be there next time you pick.

As for the pitchers, I too also like Harang for a bounce back (not as good as 07 but not as bad as 08) and Vazquez, who goes from a hitters park in the AL (with a high strung manager) to a pitchers park, in the NL, with Bobby Cox.

Bell is your best reliever option... I wonder if F. Francisco and M. Lindstrom are out there... I wouldn't count on Ziegler keeping the job (Joey Devine). Izzy is done, don't draft him. Saito won't sniff saves in Boston.

Only three teams do not have a catcher. There are only two teams without a 2B. It seems as though I could wait on both right now. Also, Lindstrom and Francisco are both available.

On a side note, I have traded Troy Glaus for a 15th round pick

Took Cano and Vazquez. I am pretty sure Bell will still be available next round as well as Ianetta/Shoppach.
