I have the 13th pick of the first round. This being a very deep league, and me being at the tail end concerns. With 2 utility spots I'm considering drafting BPA regardless of position. I have put together a mock draft on what i possibly could do. Let me know what you guys think of my ideas. or give me some advice on what you would do.
R1: Teixeira R2: Longoria R3: Best OF Available R4: McCann R5: Alexei Ramirez R6: Dan Uggla
I had 12th in a 14-team league last year and I wound up with a better group of SP than power hitters. There tends to be two pitching runs in the first half of the draft to curtail to some degree this year, I think.
You can play the position scarcity card with where you are in the draft. Let's say, Utley/Kinsler and a big bat like Fielder at the turn instead of going Tex (who might not drop to you) and Longoria. In the third round, you're likely to see an ace like Hamels, Sabathia, or Peavy pop up while in the fourth round, you're looking at Granderson there. From there, you might have to do a little bit of reaching.
Like any draft, just play it by ear and more so, if you're on the bookends.
Assuming this is a regular non-snake draft, I'd say Longoria will be gone by your second pick. And depending on your league, Tex might not be there either for your 1st pick. I think you're doing the right thing, but you gotta be able to react on the fly as to who gets picked.
I've also seen Alexie going in 4th round, Uggla going in 5, etc. Just know who you want and react accordingly.
