4 Keepers [WHIR]

Postby Swept Away » Thu Feb 19, 2009 12:24 pm

Hi all, I'm in a 5x5, 12-team roto keeper league with auctions and salaries. Our salary total for the draft auction is $260, and whatever salaries our keepers have are taken out of that total. After that, free agent salaries count as $1.

We get to keep 4 guys this year, up from 3 last year. We have to keep them at their present salaries, and after 3 years the salary goes up $5 a year. I've had Nick Markakis for 3 years so now he's at $6- I'm still keeping him. I'm also keeing Chad Billingsley and Edinson Volquez, both at $1.

I'm a little torn on my 4th keeper and could use some advice. Any one of these guys is up for grabs, but I would prefer to go for value. I was thinking about Iannetta or Encarnacion but I'm not sure if they're valuable enough. Wells and Victorino are both good deals at their present salaries. Josh Johnson looked nasty when he came back last season. Any suggestions you have would be appreciated, and I'll gladly chime in on any of your own threads.

Here's my roster from last season. Since I'd like to keep Markakis, Billinglsey, and Volquez, they're in bold. Their salaries are listed as well.

I'm leaning towards Swisher for $1 but what is the salary limits? It might be worth it to spend some money on the keeper if your limit is high enough

I'm big on Victorino myself, I don't think A-Gon is over-priced, and for more value I like Francisco for a buck, but you can redraft him. I'd hate to miss out on a stud for a $1 closer.

You got some nice $cheap$ keepers. I would save your money cause none of the high priced guys stand out, and I think they will be available during the auction at lower prices....Maybe? ;-7

I really like the following, @ $1. Sweet :-D

C - Chris Iannetta $1
SS - J.Lowrie $1
SP - Josh Johnson $1
SP - Shawn Marcum $1

I would say Johnson does stand out. HOWEVER Kazmir @ $16 aint bad at all.....either, Hope that helps.
Good luck.

Sorry, total salary for the draft is $260, our keeper salaries are taken out of that.

Swisher at $1 is pretty good. For some reason Josh Johnson also intrigues.

On the Cheap I like...Swisher & J. Johnson for $1

If you have money to spend Ilike...Kazmir $16 & A. Gonz $24

Hope that helps!

I'd probably keep AGon at 24 but that's just me. :-) But, if you want to stay with the cheap deals go with Josh Johnson and then concentrate on drafting hitters in the draft.

please help

If you are set on going on the cheap end, then I really like the idea of keeping Josh Johnson or possibly Ianetta.

If you have more flexibility, then Kazmir or Victorino are decent options that don't break the $20 barrier.

I do like AGonz but think you could avoid that $24 charge here and find power elsewhere...

Nobody really stands out for me.

I would probably keep Kazmir then Johnson then Victorino then Fransisco.

Griffey may not be all that bad since he will be DH'ing this year and is returning home. Still might be to much of a risk, and you could probably get him for cheaper than $6.
