How am I drafting thus far?

Postby Southern Illinois Cardinals Fan » Thu Feb 19, 2009 11:30 am

Hi guys. I was wondering how I am drafting in my first ever fantasy league. We had to keep 6 major leaguers from our favorite team as well as two prospects (I traded Rasmus for Bumgarner). Here is the team:

Troy Glaus
Jay Bruce

SP: Adam Wainwright

Hey, I actually don't mind the PM's for help at all. I am very concerned that I do not see where you drafted Carpenter and I sure hope he wasn't one of your keepers. Even if he was drafted it was a wasted pick this early. That appears to have been your only real mistake thus far though. Your team has decent balance but is a little low on power, your bench is also all trash and BA killers in my opinion, Bruce should at least provide some of the power you are lacking and your other active players will be able to negate his low BA (which Bruce may even pick up himself this season). A side from Carpenter your pitching is shaping up nicely with lots of strikeouts which I love from my pitchers. The minor leaguers look fine for the most part as well. I think you did an exceptional job for some one who claims to have as little experience as you do. There is room for improvement but nothing to be embarrassed about. Looks like you let 2nd base fall quite a bit, try Alexi Casilla or Blake DeWitt in the later rounds of your draft (Alexi Casilla being the player I would favor). You could easily contend this season. Nice job for your first team ever. I would recommend some mock drafts before going for a few more real teams. Try Mock Draft Central for free and active mock drafts.

One more thing, try adding Scott Baker (or Kevin Slowey if Baker is gone) as a starter and look for Huston Street (who is very under-valued this season) and Frank Fransisco who also comes late to round out your closers.

Basically, we had to keep six players from our favorite team (mine being the Cardinals). A few were obvious but the last couple were somewhat annoying. I know I can trade Glaus and Ankiel for late round picks. You mentioned my experience. I am serious that I have next to none but thankfully members here at the FBC have helped. Thanks for the comments and as far as 2B goes, I thought about taking Jose Lopez for my 2B.

Lopez isn't a bad option either, I think Casilla has more upside and comes cheaper but they are both good late round options.
