This is a new dynasty draft. 12 teams H2H Points league:
Scoring –
Offensive Positions • 1 pt for singles, walks, runs, runs batted in, hit-by-pitch, and stolen bases • 2 pts for doubles • 3 points for triples • 4 points for home runs • -1 pt for strikeouts and caught stealing
Starting Pitchers • 1 pt for innings pitched and strikeouts • 5 pts for wins and quality starts • -.5 pt for hits allowed, balks, hit batsmen and walks issued • -1 pt for earned run • -5 pt for loss
Relief Pitchers • 1 pt for innings pitched and strikeouts • 3 points for hold or win • 5 pts for save • -.5 pt for hits allowed, balks, hit batsmen and walks issued • -1 pt for earned run • -3 for loss • -5 for blown save
We start a ton of positions - 5 SP, 4 RP, all infield + OF positions, plus 2 middle infielders, 2 corner, and 3 extra OF positions.
My team so far:
1.03 Hanley Ramirez 2.10 Johan Santana 3.03 Aramis Ramirez 4.10 Matt Kemp 5.03 Brian McCann 6.10 Adam Dunn 7.03 Hunter Pence 8.10 Ervin Santana 9.03 Michael Young
Problems:
1. Have no 1B or DH guy. 2. No 2B. 3. Questionable OF starters for 2009.
I took M. Young because I thought he was BPA - missed Derek Lee by one pick, and I didn't want to reach for the next tier of 1B when there was a quality player like Young available. Plus with all of the flex infield positions, I can start him anyway.
There's basically no 1B left:
Carlos Pena Carlos Delgado Kotchman Giambi Blake LaRoche Swisher Konerko Butler Jacobs Overbay
Can anyone tell me which of these guys has the best upside? I'm still about a round and a half away and I'm sure one or two of these guys will be gone, but at this point I almost feel like I should just keep punting 1B and try and get the BPA, even if that means filling in my MI/CI/OF flex spots before 1B.
2B Available:
Jose Lopez Mark DeRosa Cano Polanco Kelly Johnson Ricky Weeks
None of those first basemen jump out at me for a dynasty (I'm assuming by dynasty, you mean you can keep everybody?). This isn't a horrible start, but it would of been nice to grab a top tier 1B, for sure. Your settings do favor good, inning eater starters, so I would lean towards filling your rotation a little earlier than usual. This doesn't mean reach, but if it comes down to a position player or a starter, I would go with the pitcher. On the other hand, with the amount of MIs and CIs, you do not want to be stuck with extremely marginal players in those areas, either. By plain numbers, you will end up with one or two of them, but more than that can put you well behind. I would be interested to at least see the top players at each position left at this point. It would even help to see some of the other teams that are drafting around you (ie 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th overall). Drafting from the three hole, you gotta take into consideration the teams that pick in between your 2 close picks.
In general, a lot of good pitchers are left, the draft has been very lop-sided in that regard. If I'd known that I might've laid off Santana at 2.10, but oh well.
I'll try and give maybe top 5 at each position - sorry for repeats just going by CBS position eligibility:
SP (listing more than 5 because there's so many left) A.J. Burnett Josh Beckett Scott Kazmir Roy Oswalt John Lackey Cliff Lee Justin Verlander Rich Harden Carlos Zambrano
RP Rivera, Mariano RP NYY Soria, Joakim RP KC Jenks, Bobby RP CHW Valverde, Jose RP HOU Street, Huston RP COL
3B Encarnacion Lowell Kouzmanoff DeRosa Beltre Blake Mora Blalock
There's plenty of good picks left. 1B Billy Butler is going to be a great dynasty option 2b Jose Lopez is improving some each year OF Milledge would be a good pick OF Delmon Young should get much better and is a good pick for dynasty RP Soria has great ratios SP With so many pitchers left , I would be thinking about Gallardo, Garza, Cain, and Liriano if they're available. Your starters already have a solid base with Santana and Santana Util Encarnacion would be a good choice .
1.03 Hanley Ramirez, FLA SS 2.10 Johan Santana, NYM SP 3.03 Aramis Ramirez, CHC 3B 4.10 Kemp, Matt LAD CF 5.03 McCann, Brian ATL C 6.10 Dunn, Adam WAS LF 7.03 Pence, Hunter HOU RF 8.10 Santana, Ervin ANA SP 9.03 Young, Michael TEX SS 10.1 Hawpe, Brad COL RF 11.03 Butler, Billy KC 1B
There are still a ton of good pitchers out there, but people seem to be discounting them a great deal, so I'm trying to play along and fill out some IF/OF spots. Butler may, however, been a massive reach.
The best 1B available right now are Konerko, LaRoche, Kotchman, Giambi. 2B are Polanco, Weeks, Ellis, Felipe Lopez 3B Carlos Guillen, Blalock OF Nelson Cruz, Jason Werth, Milledge, Burrell, Maybin
LOTS of SP left - Kazmir, Lee, Verlander, bunch of 2-3 tier guys.
Any thoughts? Lineup spots I need to fill:
3 x SP 4 x RP 1 x 1B CI x 1 2B x 1 MI x 1 OF x 3 DH x 1
Appreciate any thoughts, including bashing on stupid picks, it'll help me leeearn, lol.
By any chance is James Loney still floating around? Can Dunn play 1st in you league? Adam Lind may pick up 1st base eligibility at some point this season. That may be something to keep in mind.

Loney is gone.
Our leagues requires 20 games the previous year for eligibility at a position or 10 this year...Dunn played 19 last year.
I'm really just sorta hoping Konerko drops. I wanted to grab Butler for the long term, and peopple have been going crazy drafting young guys, so I took him, but I hope to start him at a CI spot and have someone a liiiiiiiittle more stable at 1B. Konerko looks like my best bet I think.
After that not sure what to do - probably time to start grabbing some of the quality SP's that are left. Unless someone can help me differentiate between the 2B that are left and it becomes evident I need one of them:
