Im sort of new to ROTO--I need advice on my draft

Postby ASU Redwolf » Thu Feb 19, 2009 3:10 am

I have been playing H2H fantasy baseball for years and only played ROTO for the first time last season. I made good FA moves during the season and jumped up to win the league in the last few weeks. I need advice on my draft and what specific category do I need to strengthen to win my 10-team 5X5 league.

My team:

C-Russell Martin
C=Matt Wieters
1st-Mark Teixeria
2nd-Brian Roberts
SS-JJ Hardy
3rd-A Rod
IF-Freddie Sanchez
IF-Aubrey Huff
IF-Carlos Guillen
OF-Alex Rios
OF-Vernon Wells
OF-Eric Byrnes
OF-JD Drew
OF-Coco Crisp

SP-Cliff Lee
SP-Chad Billingsley
SP-Adam Wainwright
SP-Rickey Nolasco
SP-John Danks
SP-Chris Carpenter
SP-Randy Johnson
RP-Francisco Rodriguez
RP-Jonathan Braxton

Reserves:
OF-Lastings Milledge
OF-David DeJesus
P-Jeff Francis
P-Vincente Padilla
P-Justin Duchscherer
P-Sean Marshall

Can't say I like the back end of that OF with Eric Byrnes, JD Drew & Coco Crisp, there had to have been better than that in a 10 team league even with the extra roster positions. At least you have Milledge who could break out this year. Cliff Lee, Carpenter and Wieters will disappoint. Wieters isn't even the starting catcher and probably won't even play 60 games this season, he'll spend a lot of time in AAA I think. You could have had Laird or Hundley as your number 2 catcher easily. It looks ,like you got off to a great start but made some very poor choices later in the draft.

Yes, I agree about the OF. I will need to hit the free agency ranks to change those 3 slots. Of the 3, maybe Byrnes might surprise.

Your OF is a bit sketchy along with some of your SP. Both are solid but are definitely upgradable. Cliff Lee will not have a good a year this year as he did last year (if he does then I will be amazed) so your pitching is nothing special. I really think you could do better then coco though I've never been fond of him. Looks like with a few minor adjustments you could have yourself a championship.
