I'm taking over someone else's keeper team. Full roto, snake draft, 11 teams, standard 5x5 settings, 10 offensive starters (9 + Util). Keep 2 bats, 2 arms and 1 flex. Costs you their round from last year (FA = 25th round), or if kept previously, last year's keeper round divided by 3. I don't have many pitching options, so I'm going with Broxton and Liriano in last rounds (both were FA last year) and keeping 3 bats.
Best bat options - round cost: ARod - 1 Pedroia - 8 Jason Bay - 11 Alexei Ramirez - 25 Stephen Drew - 17 Ryan Ludwick - 25 Chris Davis - 25
I figure ARod is a must unless I find out I have first overall pick and can simply redraft him. My first instinct was to go with Pedroia as my 2nd keeper, but is Alexei Ramirez a better value in the 25th round than Pedroia in the 8th? Who is my best value as a 3rd keeper (assuming I'm not keeping 2 2B)?
Thanks for the responses guys. It probably doesn't change anyone's opinion, but Pedroia is actually a 9th rounder rather than an 8th. He was kept in the 25th last year by the then owner, and you round up after dividing by 3.
Bay got an extra vote, but I'm leaning towards Alexei and Davis. That would give me ARod in the 1st, and Alexei, Davis, Broxton and Liriano in the 22nd-25th. Four guys that would be drafted in the top half in my last 4 rounds plus ARod should give me a solid base for the year. Plus I can put Davis in the 25th and have him as a potential 9th round keeper for 2010, when he should be even better than he will be this year.
Much more value exists with your others players. in fact, of that list, I'd say Arod would be the last player I'd keep.
Alexei has a ton of draft value, but I really don't like him this year, so I wouldn't want to keep him.
I'd go with Davis, Ludwick, and then probably Pedroia. Argument could certainly be had for Alexei, but I'd try to trade him first.
Don't keep Arod.
Don't keep first rounders.
Care to explain? Arod is a 1st rounder and he will likely need to pick someone in the 1st round. Why give up a top 3 player and use the 1st round to get someone worse (assuming of course Hanley and Pujols are also kept).
