Pedroia's value?

Postby dobie76 » Wed Feb 18, 2009 12:06 pm

I'm in a 10 team Yahoo 5 x 5 league. It's a keeper league (max 2 keepers), and I've got no keepers. So, based on the other teams keepers & my draft slot I will have the 2nd, 4th, and 10th overall picks here are the players that will be available:
Texiera
Berkman
BJ Upton
Morneau
Manny
Beltran
Prince
Pedroia
Ichiro
Lincecum
Carlos Lee
C.Crawford
B. Phillips
A-Ram
J.Bay

Out of the bottom half of that group, and assuming I would end up with a Berkman/Beltran combination who do you like for my third pick (10th overall)? I keep getting hit with the position scarcity and see 2B and 3B as where I should go... Will Pedroia produce??

WHIR, Thanks!

I remember looking and Pedroia early last season and thinking, so what he's Placido Polanco at best, and not even the type of hitter Polanco was when he was young and batting an insane .380. I was wrong, it doesn't happen often but I can admit it this time...lol. Pedroia will never hit .380 but he is far more productive than I ever though he would be. However, with only two keepers, I have to look elsewhere. Lincecum jumps out immediatly and I would want either Tex or Berkman to go along with him. Me, I'd take Tex.

Edit: I scanned your post and didn't fully read it. You won't be able to draft both of those guys I would hope to get Bay in that case before Pedroia. Who know's Tex might fall though.

If the draftee ahead of you is a total idiot and dosenot draft tex. you got your first round pick. If you are looking for a 2Bmen and you dont like Pedroia than try looking at Brandon Phillips who has speed and power, a all-around complete player. If your looking for a Outfielder, I would go with Carl Crawford, he is in his prime, has terrific speed, good power, and is a leader of the AL Champion Rays, he also should have another great year in 2009.

If you could get Lincecum that would be outstanding.

carl crawford is overrated, pedroia is overrated, he has NO where to go but DOWN..... take the big sticks, take the guaranteed sticks, DON'T pay for the MVP hype...... i can name 3 2B i would take that are going in the 12th rounds on over pedroia.....

jose lopez
aaron hill
kelly johnson

(did i say they'll outproduce Pedroia? NO, but especially lopez value wise, will return 7 times the value for his ADP)

If you want to go on postion scarcity for your 10th pick then I would look at Brandon Phillips first if he is available. But, overall, I think this early in the draft you need to pick the best available. And after you get Berk and Beltran I would look at Lincecum, Upton, Phillips, Lee. Of course if Manny or Prince drop to you grab them instead. But, I think you could get one of those four with your number 10 pick. I would forget Pedroia in this instance.
