Keep McLouth or take the pick? - WHIR

Postby mj85 » Wed Feb 18, 2009 10:36 am

This is a 12 team standard 5x5 ESPN H2H league where we keep 8 players. I inherited this team and it has a great core but I'm not sure I want to keep the full 8. In fact, I only have 7 on my roster now. I'm wondering if I should drop McLouth, keeping 6, and take the 2 picks. I already have pick #1 in the draft so I could get a few picks of the litter.

My current roster consists of: Braun, Sizemore, Berkman, Markakis, McLouth, Martin and Billingsley.

It appears that there will be some very good names on the draft board, such as: Dunn, A Soriano, Dye, Hart, Kershaw, Oswalt, Volquez, Cain, Chamberlain, Gallardo.

From the looks of it, I would likely have 3 of the first 5 picks (given the prelim keeers). I'm thining hard of throwing back McLouth and trying to take Soriano and a pitcher (or maybe Dunn, Hart or Dye).

Should I only keep the 6?

I would keep McLouth. There is a chance that someone throws a better player than him back but I don't think there is a great chance of that happening. I think McLouth in the 7th round is great value for him.

I have to agree with MJ. You have to let McLouth go for either Dunn or Soriano.

No. I just don't know why the Soriano owner would not keep him. I can't believe that an owner in a 12 team league would have 8 better keepers. I think Hart, Dunn & McLouth are close enough that I would not risk losing all of them because you never know how the keepers & supplemental draft will go. If you drop McLouth you will be picking #73-84. All those players are better than #73 with the information presented you run the risk of losing all three.

You insinuated that all those player would be available, I didn't realize that we were talking about hypotheticals. That makes it tough to select anyone. I would repost this when the rest of the league has submitted their keepers.
