General Auction Help..WHIR

Hey guys,

I've been lurking on the boards for sometime now and have finally begun posting. Everything I read has been absolutely great and I know you guys can help sure up some questions I have regarding an auction draft.

First some background. I have played fantasy baseball in very competitive leagues for 4 years now. I have spent ungodly hours on building my spreadsheet for drafts and have had a wonderful time doing it. I even referred to a thread in the cafe pertaining to creating my own auction values based on my projections. Its been great stuff.

I have only competing in H2H leagues with a snake style draft. I finally decided to try my hand at a keeper auction league. It is in its first year so I assume the draft is essentially the same as a redraft auction. The auction has just begun and I was wondering what some seasoned vets had to say about auctions.

I'm mainly looking for the layout of talent I can expect on my team. I have done a couple mock auctions and find myself struggling mightily in the middle of the auction. I'm not sure when is best to spend money or when is best to save. I feel like I'm getting deals on the players until all of a sudden I have 10 spots to fill and only $15-20 left. I know there is a plethora of ways to build a roster but I'd like some insight on what you guys think. I have allotted 67% of my budget to hitting and 33% to pitching. I don't feel the need to pay for top talent at any position unless it is at least in line with my projected value.

Just wondering how people go about building a team, do you decide on a few guys at each position you'd like to target or just play it by ear? If anyone can find threads anywhere in this forum where this has already been answered please post them!

Thanks in advance guys!
