I'm in a 12 team Roto (5x5) Keeper League (KEEP 6)
I'm trying to decide between Haren and Gallardo for my last keeper slot. The other guy I'm going to try and trade to move up in the draft.
Haren is a top 10 SP, but Gallardo could be one of the best if healthy. He was being mentioned in the same breath as Lincecum when both were in the minors. Should I go with the safer play with Haren, or go with the upside of Gallardo?
My Keepers
1. Pujols
2. Braun
3. Sizemore
4. BJ Upton
5. J. Santana
6. ?

I think I would go with Haren. Gallardo has plenty of upside, but I would rather anchor my staff with a known commodity and Haren is a pretty darn good one.

I think of these pitchers who are supposed to be the next big thing. I can't count the heated discussions I've had with people who vehemently believed that guys like Homer Bailey and Phil Hughes were going to be superstars long after it should have been very evident to everyone that they were nothing but big ol' busts. Gallardo could be great, but we haven't seen enough to know that what he has done in the minors will transcend in to the MLB which is a whole new ball game. He had some early sucess which is typical for most rookie pitchers because most of the batters they are facing are not familiar with them. It often doesn't last long. Haren is still young and has proven himself. There's no need to gamble.

Keep Haren..no injuries, still fairly young...Gallardo..already has been hurt, has yet to prove much

Definitely Haren.
He's proven and yet he's only 28, so he should be productive for many, many more years.
Help?
