Roto: Fielder, Davis, Shields for Howard + EE

In a vacuum (I'm concerned about value)....

I give: Fielder, C. Davis, J. Shields.

I get: Howard, Edwin Encarnacion

(5x5, 10 team roto)

What say you?

Horrible trade. I wouldn't even do it if you took out Davis or Shields.

No way. This is one of the most lopsided trades I have ever seen posted here.

Appreciate the advice -- in roto I love the extra HRs from Howard, but either Fielder or Davis have the potential to jump up to Howard....

I have Wright so to have Wright + Howard was a tempting idea...

One thing to keep in mind is that Howard was marginally better than 2007 because he had more than 80 AB to make up for it. That can explain a decline in both of his OBP and SLG from 2007 to 2008. You'd think a 48 HR slugger would have an OPS at .950 and over while in fact he hit well below .900.

That said, I don't see how Howard gives you "extra" homeruns. Fielder has a better contact rate than Howard and can reasonably hit 40 homeruns this season. Add into the fact that Davis on a prorated season has the upside of hitting 30 homeruns or more and you're losing out on the trade greatly, more so when you add Shields.

In the widest sense of the term, you just had sex.

EDIT: Looks like you haven't actually pulled the trigger yet after reading other responses. Don't!

I could easily see Davis or Fielder ending up with better stats than Howard but both of them? Now way I do that trade. And then you put in Shields? :-t
