I think he will put up better power numbers this year. I'm thinking .300 32-35 hr's, 110 rbi's are possible. If Frank Thomas is better this year and Carlos Lee puts it all together (which his improved k-bb ratio indicates), the White Sox lineup could be very explosive.
He may not have 30-35 HR power. This is just for the sake of argument, but I remember watching him in the HR derby last year, and he wasn't exactly juicing balls out of there, and that was against batting practice pitching. (Does anyone else remember that, or was I dreaming the whole thing?) The balls he did hit out were like 6-7 rows back. Meanwhile, Sosa's putting balls on mars. I don't know, just thought I'd throw that out there. Heck if he gets on the juice a little bit like Sosa and Mr. Potato Head Giles he could hit 60. He could hurt his back and never be the same, you just don't know.
Konerko is my favorite player in the majors. First of all, he made it to the semi-finals in the homerun derby. Second of all, he isnt a true homerun hitter. When he's on he hits a ton of line drives back up the middle. The guy has a great mind set, and great swing. Last year he played through a right foot injury that kept his power numbers down. My predictions for him... 310-33-110. By the way he's as clutch as they come, maybe doesnt help the fantasy numbers but as far as watching him all season, gotta love the bottom of the 9th homers, etc.
hes had 3 nearly identical seasons.
each time with prolonged 2nd half slumps
last year, his first half was amazing, his 2nd half was awful.
his batting average dropped .058 pts in the 2nd half.
and he still finished with the same stats as he has been.
the WORST he will do is match his average from the past 3 years.
the BEST is to double what he did in the 1st half last year.
which would be worth every penny you pay.
as for the homerun derby comment, i think jackie is on the crack.
you can't use that to judge ANYTHING.
I like Konerko a lot this year. Thomas should be better and Lee looks to be solid behind him. That lineup is loaded. He should provide some nice value. Guys like Sweeney, Bagwell, Raf, and Delgado are going a few rounds ahead of him, but i just don't see any difference. .300 30 115 is my projection. You may get a few more hr's from the other guys, but he should be right there in avg and rbi's.
