I think I would take Markakis as well. The days of "this is going to be the year Crawfrod hits 20 hr and drives in 100" are long gone for me.
Markakis is a stud and still developing. Some of his peripheral numbers decreased last year like SB's and RBI's, but he scored more Runs, hit for a slightly higher average and bumped up his OBP to a beastly .406. I like those signs of development.
Tough call - a lot depends on what you have and what you think you can get because they're opposites in a lot of ways.
Crawford is never going to develop the power that everyone was thinking he would; However, last season he was injured - I'd venture he grabs a few more SBs this year.
With Markakis you're banking on him developing his power more, he's not a speedster so I really wouldn't count on the SBs.
I prefer the Rays lineup to the O's....however, I think I'd edge towards Markakis just out of worries that Crawford may have leg issues - and since that's where his value lies..
*(please note that in his short time in the MLB Markakis has slumped early on before catching fire and going nuts)
I have to give a slight edge to Crawford. I think he'll have a higher average , score more runs and get more steals , whil Markakis will hit more Hr's and get more rbi's . In a league with OPS , I would go with Markakis.
I prefer Markakis, but it depends on how you're drafting. If you're looking for a little bit more power, Markakis is the choise. Last season he went 106 20 87 10 .306 so he is solid in every category. If you're looking for speed, go Crawford. He was injured for a part of last season, but the year before that he went 93 11 80 50 .315 You're not going to get power from Crawford, but he makes up for that in steals. Personally I would go Markakis, then a round or two later get steals cheaper with Ellsbury.
