Unload Rollins for Pitching?

Postby theinflatinator91 » Sun Feb 15, 2009 8:52 am

This is a standard 5x5, 12 team, H2H league...My pitching is weak, but have great flexibility with second base and ss. Jimmy Rollins, Brian Roberts, and Alexei Ramirez all can play those positions. Would it be better to keep Alexei because he is eligible at three positions? I really need help with my pitching, I was thinking of unloading Rollins for a Chad Billingsley, Edison Volquez, Roy Oswalt, or a James Shields in addition to a top line closer like Joakim Soria. All of the above listed pitchers are on one persons team. He also has Tim Lincecum and CC, which make the others even more expendable...His SS is Mike Aviles and his 2b is Dan Uggla. The rest of his offense is pretty bad. Besides Russle Martin he has no one who will hit above .280.

Now here is my team.

C - Pablo Sandoval
1b - Justin Morneau
2b - Brian Roberts
3b - Evan Longoria
ss - Jimmy Rollins
of - Ryan Ludwick
of - Adam Dunn
of - Alexei Ramirez
ut - Joey Votto
bn - Nelson Cruz
bn - Justin Upton
bn - Milton Bradly
bn - Tori Hunter

sp - Adam Wainwright
sp - Jon Lester
rp - Joe Nathan
rp - Chris Ray
p - Johnny Cueto
p - Eric Bedard
p - Joe Saunders
bn - Justin Duchscherer
bn - Johnny Cueto

I think that would be a good idea. I'm not sure if you could get Soria as well as one of those starters. If not , you have too many outfielders. Maybe you can trade 1 outfielder and Rollins and see what you can get . Maybe you can get an ace pitcher as well as a closer.

I wouldn't touch any of your hitters. You've got a good offense; a great mix with power and speed. Brian Roberts, Rollins and Alexei should stay put.

While you say your pitching is weak, I don't see much of a problem. I think Lester and Wainright will be top 10 pitchers at the end of the year. Your closers leave a bit to be desired. Chris Ray in a 5x5 league is worthless to begin the season. Scour the waiver wire at the beginning of the season for a strong pitcher and stay tuned to spring training for closing situations. It's not worth blowing up your squad to add a 3rd tier pitcher.

Plus having two Johnny Cuetos is better than one Lincecum :-b

i agree, i would not touch your team at this point.

follow spring training and you should be able to pick up some pitching help. and worst case escenario, you make a trade mid-season
