Hey, in a 30 team simulation baseball league my pitching staff is as follows:
1. Joe Blanton
2. Jeremy Bonderman
3. Kyle Lohse
4. Jason Marquis
5. Zach Duke
with a minor league rotation including:
1. Matt Chico
2. Kason Gabbard
3. Radhames Liz
4. Bobby Livingston
5. Mark Rogers
In the free-agent market there is Brad Penny (probably too expensive), Doug Davis, and Boof Bonser. Should I pursue any of these guys? What do you think of my rotation?
I could do a 1st and 3rd round pick in the June draft for Edwin Jackson, should I do this?

I'd sooner try signing Penny than going for Jackson--do you lose picks for FAs?
I'd move on one of them though: Duke's no peach.

I don't lose picks for signings, only in tier1, this is now tier2. The only problem is price, Penny is offered 9 million over 1 year, while Jackson is in the 2nd year of his pre-arbitration contract (6-8 years) and is making .48 million. Penny is very risky too. Zach Duke I just signed for the league min. for 3 years, and he has a one year no-trade clause. The rest of the guys I could move. I don't really want to move Duke because he is my only LH SP

In that case, I roll with Jackson--try to get a pick tossed back your way though, too.

I'm thinkning about sitting tight and maybe trying to pursue C.C. Sabathia (and his 3 year 17.5 million dollar contract) or Josh Becket (and his 1 year 6 million dollar contract). Jackson doesn't work as a #1 or 2 for me

What do you mean staff killer? Marquis is very cheap (2 million) so I'm okay.

....LOL, maybe i don't understand your league, but any pitching staff that has jason marquis as its #4 starter and pitching in coors field is a disaster
and mark rogers is toast..he won't be returning from his surgeries

It's not based off of real stats. It is a simulation league so Jason Marquis actually pitches in Tropicana Field (I am the Rays). The pitchers win-loss is dependent on how the particular game is played (with hits, errors, etc.) If you want you could familiarize yourself with the program DMB (Diamond Mind Baseball). Player's abilities are determined by the ZIPS projection device created by Dan Symbroski (I destroyed his name). Google ZIPS projection or go to Baseball Think Factory to familiarize yourself with this tool.
