Alexei Ramirez or Stephen Drew

Postby Newkie » Fri Feb 13, 2009 10:57 pm

FIrst of all, is this even close. I am in a H2H 10 player keeper league and have the first overall pick in round 11 (which is the first round for non keepers and I also have the 8th overall pick in the same round). Should I grab Alexei Ramirez at number one (I dont have a SS, or should I draft the best overall player no matter who and take Stephen Drew 8th overall. (a manager has offered me Drew for my 8th overall pick) I feel hes a slight step down from Ramirez, but he is better than the SS I am dropping altogether in Michael Young.
I had no room for Young.
My 10 keepers are
Mauer
A.Gonzalez
Uggla
Aramis Ramirez
Sizemore
Bay
Beltran
Abreu
Kazmir
J.Shields

and I just traded my 6th overall pick for Cliff Lee. (yes I actually had 3 first round picks this yr after numerous trades to get them last yr)

So what would you do?

Thanks so much

depends who's available with your 1st overall. if alexei is the best available i'd take him, if he's not then i probably wouldn't.

Not everyone has posted there keepers yet. they have til a week before the season. I do know that Ben Sheets, Dunn, Gallardo, G.Atkins will be available.

My SP's as you see are Kazmir, Shields, and now C.Lee. I could have Sheets or Gallardo and then have Drew with my 8th overall pick via a trade. Should any of those players get picked over Ramirez? Maybe I should grab Sheets and take Drew? As you see above, my keepers are pretty deep. I have top 5-7 players at every postion.

Thanks

Well Sheets might be out for the season and he's very injury prone. I would definitely consider taking Gallardo #1 and trading the pick for Drew. That is a pretty nice 11th round in a 10 team league.

Are you dropping someone to keep Lee? I would honestly have kept the 6th overall if you have to drop one of the ten keepers listed.

As for your trade offer, I really like the idea of taking ARam. He is drastically better in every statistical category than Drew, and Drew comes with more risk. But seeing as who else will be available, I would definitely go with Gallardo and Drew.

I dont have to drop any of the ten keepers I listed. I didnt know that Sheets was injured again. I havent got into the total baseball mode yet I guess. But I am frantically trying to make trade or two before the draft in March. I have a top 4 team, and the teams that are above me obviously have a player or two that is still quality that they wont be able to keep. I just have to make sure I dont blow my first overall with the bottom feeders lining up behind me to take whoever I dont.

I felt like taking Lee was a safe bet seeing all the SP's ahead of him will remain keepers on the other managers teams and I was targeting a SP at that spot anyways. Maybe I should try to figure out which pitchers might be around with the 8th pick and then decide if I should take a Gallardo first and then Drew with that 8th spot.
Thanks in the mean time, I will post back after I see who might fall through to the free agen pool.

oh wait. you lose a keeper when you make the trade? oh i wasn't even thinking about that. don't trade away your draft picks, if you lose a keeper too. neither drew nor cliff lee are worth that. you lose your final keeper.

so which one of those 10 keepers are you cutting to make room for cliff lee? and which one would you cut to make room for drew?

Must have been typing about the same time. I dont have to cut anybody. Lee comes to me by virtue of my normal draft position (6th spot) That manger wasnt going to keep Lee, and they wanted a 2nd pick in the first round of drafting. So its Ramirez with my first pick and then grabbing the best SP available with the 8th, or taking the best player or SP first and taking Drew with the 8th which will be guaranteed to me via a draft position trade.

Thanks
