BJ for Phillips

Postby Omaha Red Sox » Fri Feb 13, 2009 9:40 am

I've been offered Gil Meche, Jim Thome, and BJ Upton for my Bobby Jenks and Brandon Phillips.

I'm pretty sure I want to do this. I have Pedroia at 2B and Jenks is next to worthless to me since this league doesn't value RPs very much. I don't need Thome though. He's interested in only Phillips I believe, maybe Jenks.

Agreed, do it. The power disappeared last year, but Upton is simply a better player overall. Thome isn't a worthless chip, either. There will always be a closer or two on the wire, which is why you never need to overpay for saves.

I'd do the trade as well.

He pulled it for some reason, so I've offered it back to him.

I would have made the trade. Upton is the best player in the deal and I'd take him over Phillips for sure. I'm not quite as high on Bobby Jenks as some might be, namely because his K rate fell off a cliff (though he wasn't 100%). It would have been a good deal for you.
