Dunn Deal - How'd I do; now, who to keep - WHIR

Postby plapre3 » Fri Feb 13, 2009 12:04 am

Ok, so I just completed this deal and need to rethink my keeper situation. I ask first, how'd I do and second, whom should I keep?

My Scott Kazmir, Madison Bumgarner, and Jhoulys Chacin for his Adam Dunn, Joakim Soria, Aubrey Huff, and Rick Porcello

I'm pretty happy with it as I don't trust Kazmir, especially in a league that counts QS-L given his high pitch counts. I'm most unsure about Huff as a keeper, but he was "thrown in."

I'll put the keepers in tiers to sort them out... Right now I'm thinking I'll keep the 1st 2.
1st Tier: Johan Santana, Alfonso Soriano, Corey Hart, Adam Dunn, Joe Nathan
2nd Tier: V-Mart, Joakim Soria, Yovanni Gallardo, Zach Greinke
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3rd Tier: Michael Young, Aubrey Huff, Ryan Zimmerman, Alex Gordon

As for minor leaguers, I only get to keep 5. My thoughts are keeping them in the following order:
1) Colby Rasmus (OF-Stl)
2) Matt LaPorta (1B-Cle)
3) Rick Porcello (SP-Det)
4) Logan Morrison (1B-Fla)
5) Josh Vitters (3B-ChiNL)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
6) Michael Bowden (SP-Bos)
6x6 weekly HtH 14 team roto keeper (between 5 and 10 keepers (no time limits or costs), losing a draft pick for each after 5)
Offensive Categories: BA, OPS, RBI, HR, SB and Runs Scored.
Pitching Categories: W, S, ERA, K/IP, Quality Starts minus Losses, and WHIP
Offensive Starters: C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, 0F, 0F, 0F, UTIL
Pitching Starters: SP, SP, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, RP
Bench: 10 spots
Minors: 5 "free" keepers. These players if are eligible to be kept without the loss of a draft pick and in addition to the max of 10.
Thank you all in advance and as always, leave a link.
I never understand why people rank Adam Dunn so high. I would move Michael Young up and drop Dunn as a keeper.
you do realized this is an OPS league right?
i like the trade quite a bit for you. I'd rather have Dunn than Kazmir with your settings and while i love Bumgarner, Soria is quite a bit more valuable. I'd keep Young along with the first two tiers which gives you your full 10 keepers but i think thats the way to go with your team.
I'd keep Soria over Dunn
Dunn > Kazmir
Porcello < Bumgarner, they're both potential aces, but the Giants have been much better at developing young pitchers recently, looking at Cain and Lince. Besides Verlander, who was the last successful Tigers pitching prospect? Jack Morris? Verlander's stumbling and not living up to the hype. Plus, Porcello has a shot at breaking the mediocre MLB rotation this year, which would make him lose his rookie status.
Soria > Chacin
Huff = not a keeper
Fair trade, but you do win out slightly. Those are very solid keepers, too.
I agree, nice trade. And as for keepers I like your tiers + Young. Keep in mind he'll probably move to 3B, although that's more of a next season though.
Thanks, all, for the help so far. Anyone else?
I'm now thinking that I'll keep 10 since the pool of good talent seems to be dwindling more and more. That leaves me with:
MLB: Minors:
Victor Martinez Matt Laporta
Adam Dunn Colby Rasmus
Michael Young Logan Morrison
Alfonso Soriano Josh Vitters
Corey Hart Rick Porcello
Johan Santana
Zach Greinke
Yovanni Gallardo
Joe Nathan
Joakim Soria
Keep Zimmerman, instead of Michael Young. He's 8 years younger with clearly more upside. Plus, he was battling injuries much of last season so you could probably expect better than that season.
While both guys are expected to produce about average for their position, Zimm is the only one of the pair that could rise above that in the next few years.
A case could be made for Gordon, if you think he's more likely to be a star. Huff would be better than either of the two for next season, and he's even younger than Young.
First off, great trade.
Second, I would easily swap Hart and Greinke. I would agree that, other than Hart, Tier 1 are must-keep. I might even consider keeping Zimmerman over Hart at this point.
