woOt! Smoltzy hit the DL just in time for me to scoop up that BJ Ryan. Most of what I have been reading on him sounds bad on the surface, low velocity, bad mechanics, etc... But BJ says his velocity will come, and he isn't a hard throwing Closer anyway. He is still the closer, and I am hoping he will be fine. I think that mgr was just trying to light a fire to some extent, which seemed to have an affect. He threw a solid inning with 1k and 1 bb last night.

Ziegler and Sherrill yes, Ray....maybe. But maybe that's just me having drafted Ryan as my #1 closer in '07. I'm a Ray fan and I think he has a good shot to put up 65 IP, 30+ SV, 3.50 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 55 K or so.
With those projections, I am a Ray fan now too!! I am confident that if Ryan, Qualls, or Motte struggles, Ray won't be scooped up before I can make a move on him. I could be wrong, and more than likely, at least one of those 3 WILL struggle, so idk... Ray is def worth owning though.
To get one 40-man roster spot open, the A's put co-closer Joey Devine on the 60-day DL, another sign that the team believes Devine's right elbow injury to be significant. Devine is visiting Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday and if he has a ligament problem, there is a strong possibility he will require season-ending surgery.

It was always his job. The question was whether Cito would take it away from him, and I don't think he will. BJ did nothing to lose it over the past week.

Cito is the mgr, fyi. Ryan pitched last year with a fb in the 87-89 area, and he isn't far off that right now. I imagine if he struggles he may get replaced, but lets just wait and see. Ryan is a stud. Picked him off ww last year for 30+ saves, and hoping this year is the same thing.
