Manager Dave Trembley clarified the closer situation yesterday, indicating that George Sherrill is his primary closer. However, he also said Chris Ray, who was the team's closer for two seasons before getting hurt, will get save opportunities.
"There's no evaluation," Trembley said. "We're going to let people pitch, but I've pretty much said on record that George Sherrill is the closer. I've told him that doesn't necessarily mean that he'll get every save situation. We have the luxury of Chris Ray having done that before where he could get some of those opportunities."

When the heck is Yahoo going to add Izzy? I grabbed him with a very late pick in an 18 team league, and I'm tired of checking everyday to see if he's been added to their player pool.

So stop checking. If you grabbed him with a pick already, what's it matter?

A quirky thing, but I like having my complete roster sitting there after I finish a draft. Kind of satisfying feeling. The incomplete roster kind of drives me crazy.
The St. Louis Post Dispatch speculates that the Cardinals may pursue signing Pedro Martinez to be their closer.
Martinez has said that he'd be open to the idea. "I would prefer to try it first and see how my body responds because I haven't done it in a long time," Martinez said. "It's something you really have to endure and really try first before you know if your body can do it." He may get some relief work in the World Baseball Classic.
