To continue on the Downs/Ryan saga, Its pretty clear Downs is the next go-to-guy. But I can't help feel like this is something similar to what Tony La Russa would do: Use Downs to try and light a fire under BJ Ryan. However I don't think that its a bluff that he would go to Downs if need be. I picked him up as well when this all came to head a day or so ago. It could be some of the cheapest saves I've ever lucked upon.

Would it be wise to drop Devine for Downs at this point?

I started a new thread for pissing contests so the gentlemen can take it outside. Cause nobody here cares.

It's a long season. I'd think twice. Ryan could be back Saving games by May, as could Devine. I think I'd hold out and see if Downs or whomever hangs around until Devine is officially placed on the DL so you don't have to drop him.

metsfan12, just stop.

Wrong place for that question.

...and for those that think Devine is out even when he comes back, here's CBS's take on it
Geren has said that Devine will split the closer job with Brad Ziegler.

So if you've got playoffs later in the year Devine would be a good DL spot guy. If you don't (roto league) and have a shallow league you might want to drop him if there's someone else already in your DL and hope to pick him back up later.

Doesn't sound good.
Hopefully we don't have the run-around of the cortisone injection, and then the "oh yeah he needs surgery" that Duch had.
I don't like Ziegler at closer, he will turn back into a pumpkin before the season is out (maybe before the 1st half is over) :-C
